Limitless

In the movie Limitless, Bradley Cooper takes a sample of a new “smart drug” called NZT-48, and it was a life-changing experience for him, allowing him to tap into his brain’s full potential and accomplish unbelievable feats. While it was just a movie, imagine if you could take a pill and become a smarter person.

It turns out, “cognitive-enhancing” drugs are very real, and thanks to movies like this they’re becoming more and more popular. There are a number of online forms where users of these drugs actively talk about their experiences with it. Silicon Valley programmers reportedly like nootropics because they’re said to increase productivity and sharpen focus, without the bad side effects of something like Adderall.

But you might be surprised to learn that a number of well-known individuals have also used brain-enhancing pills like Modafinil in the past, and some that are still tapping into their positive effects today.

Dave Asprey

Dave Asprey is an entrepreneur, nutritionist and author who is also the chairman of the Silicon Valley Health Institute. In an interview, he said brain enhancing drugs helped him cut through the brain fog when working on a startup that was later sold for $600 million. He said the drugs helped him stay focused all the time while tapping deeper into his brain power.

Joe Rogan

Joe Rogan is one of the most respected stand-up comedians around, and he hosts a popular podcast called The Joe Rogan Experience. In one of those podcasts, he told Tim Ferris that he uses Modafinil because it helps him stay sharp for 6 hours or more; far more effective than a cup of coffee.

Barack Obama

While the POTUS won’t open up and comment about the use of brain-enhancing meds, a report on his recent physical exam showed that he uses medications to help him manage jet lag and stay awake longer. There are several possibilities as to what these drugs may be, but experts believe Provigil is a likely possibility.

The UK Army

In 2006, Modafinil was bought in large quantities to be used by the Army during the Iraq war. The drug was researched by the Ministry of Defense and it was established that it could give the Army an extra edge by enhancing physical and mental performance. Since use of Modafinil was controversial at the time, there was no confirmation on how the drugs were used. However, the results of the initial research by the Ministry of Defense were conclusive.

Tim Ferris

Tim Ferriss, author of the best-selling The 4-Hour Work Week, has spoken openly about using Modafinil in the past when he was battling writers block. He first mentioned this in an interview with London Real, where he said some Olympic athletes were using it to gain an extra edge.
