April 15th is right around the corner! Have you done your taxes yet? I’ve been putting it off for over a month now, but with April 15th rapidly approaching, I finally did them today.
(In the past, I’ve had my accountant take care of this for me.. But this year my tax situation was less complicated, so I decided to do it myself!)
The next step was to figure out which tax software to use. My folks usually use TaxCut, so I decided to go with that. Only now, it’s called H&R Block At Home 2010 Deluxe. Amazon.com sells it as a digital download, which saved me a trip to Best Buy!
H&R Block At Home is actually pretty simple to use. They hold your hand and take you through the process step by step. My situation ended up being a little more complicated than I had first anticipated (a number of 1099s I received required me to fill out a Schedule C, something completely new to me), but the program made sure I stayed on track. It searches for hundreds of deductions to get you the biggest refund, and they showed me some deductions that I wasn’t even aware of!
In total, it took me about two hours to do my taxes. I figured I would owe some money, and my guestimate was pretty accurate. So the day turned out pretty good after all..

Great reminder! I’ve been wanting to get around it but haven’t start it yet. Only a week left so it’s time to get all the files out and start preparing for this taxs judgment day!
