It’s amazing to see how much bigger today’s cars are compared to their predecessors. Safety regulations might have had some influence in this shift, but cars like the Fiat 500 and the Mini Cooper show that small cars can be equally safe.
So what happened? We as a country got fatter, and the car makers made their cars longer, taller, and wider to accomodate us!
It’s hard to believe, but a 1984 Honda Accord is actually smaller and lighter than a today’s Honda Civic! And look at BMW, their 1-Series is nearly the same size as a 1990 BMW 325i.
