I did quite a bit of traveling this year, and I had an absolute blast. But believe it or not, the best time I had was a road trip to New Orleans with my buddy Mike. Male bonding at it’s finest!
Our trusty steed for this journey was Mike’s new Kia Soul, which he had just picked up a few weeks earlier. His salesman threw in a stuffed hamster, which was pretty cool.

Our trip took us from Chicago -> St. Louis -> Nashville -> Tuscaloosa -> New Orleans. In total, we logged around 1500 miles in about 5 days, and had a ton of fun along the way.
After taking in a Cubs game, we enjoyed some deep dish pizza from Lou Malnati’s. AMAZING! The next morning, we hit the road for St. Louis and the famed arch. And some authentic St. Louis-style ribs for dinner. Good stuff.
The following day, we headed to Tuscaloosa, Alabama (roll tide!) to meet up with some friends who go to school there. Hit up some bars, partied with some cute college girls (with southern accents!), and had a freaking blast. Good times were had by all.
And finally, we made our way to New Orleans, which is such a wild city. Bourbon Street was pretty crazy on a regular Thursday night, I can only imagine what it’s like during Mardi Gras!
We spent a few days there seeing the sights (it’s amazing how much destruction Katrina left behind), eating a beignet at Cafe Du Monde, and trying some authentic creole food. And of course, drinking our asses off.
It was a great trip, and one that I won’t soon forget.
