Back in January, we caught a glimpse of Samsung’s massive 88-inch Q9 QLED TV on the show floor at CES in Las Vegas, where it was suspended from the ceiling by cables. Samsung employees wouldn’t talk about pricing and availability at the time, but we finally got some answers today!
The 88-inch Samsung Q9, the flagship model in their top-end QLED lineup, is now available for purchase in the US.. But it will set you back a not-so-insignificant $20,000, which is more than I paid for my car.
So what exactly do you get for that money? The 88-inch TV features Ultra HD (4K) resolution, 10-bit HDR (no Dolby Vision), 240 Hz refresh, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth, four HDMI inputs and Samsung’s Smart Hub and Smart Remote. The Q9 is extremely thin, has nearly no bezel, and features a “no-gap” wall mount thanks to its 1.88mm transparent optical cable.
“At Samsung, we are aiming to expand our footprint in the ultra-premium TV market with our ultra-large QLED TV models that embody the perfect combination of technology and art,” said Jongsuk Chu, Senior Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “With their superior picture quality and innovative features, we are confident that our QLED TV lineup will continue to drive sales and solidify Samsung’s leadership in the global TV market.”
Samsung’s new QLED TV series boasts a new quantum dot technology, which uses a layer metal “quantum dots” placed in front of an LED backlight panel. Each can emit an individual hue from a palette of one billion colors. Samsung says this improves light output (up to 2,000 nits in highlights, double that of OLED) and color performance, and they’re touting it as the next step in TV evolution.
If the 88-inch model is too rich for your blood, Samsung’s QLED TV lineup also includes more affordable 55-inch, 65-inch and 75-inch models, the latter coming in at a “reasonable” $9,000.
At the end of the day, you’re always going to pay top dollar if you want the biggest, best model available. At $20,000, the Samsung Q9 is still considerably cheaper than the 120-inch VIZIO Reference Series television, which costs an incredible $130,000.
Transform Your Living Room Into A Movie Theater With LG’s 150″ Home Projector
LG is sure to wow crowds at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) with their eye-popping 150-inch high-definition home projector, which brings the movie theater experience into the comfort of your home.
The LG HU80KA projector delivers ultra-sharp video in a compact, beautiful design, allowing you to mount it on the wall, hang it from the ceiling, or place it on the floor. And it’s small enough that you can even bring it with you to a friend’s house. Seriously, how cool is that?
Traditional 4K projectors are heavy, expensive and difficult to install. LG engineers and designers addressed these drawbacks, taking on the challenge of downsizing the 4K UHD projector without sacrificing picture quality. The result was an affordable yet premium device roughly half the size of competing 4K projectors that delivers superb cinematic experiences in any room of the house.
LG’s 4K UHD projector can create a 150-inch screen at an amazing 2,500 lumens. What’s more, the LG 4K UHD projector also supports HDR content (HDR 10) for an eye-popping cinematic experience in the home, with two 7W speakers delivering high-quality audio. External speakers or a sound bar can also be connected via optical output, HDMI or wirelessly through Bluetooth for enhanced audio performance.
And you’ll have no shortage of content to watch, as the projector’s webOS 3.5 smart TV interface can access the most popular online streaming services offering 4K content. The device comes equipped with standard connectivity options for USB, Ethernet and HDMI ports, as well as wireless support for external devices such as a keyboard and mouse, offering endless access to high-quality content.
If you’re going to be at CES next week, make sure you stop by the LG booth (Booth #11100, Central Hall) so you can experience this incredible home projector for yourself, and see why it earned the coveted CES 2018 Best of Innovation award.

Why You Should Consider Moving Your Home Theater Outdoors
You’ve invested a whole lot of time in choosing, designing and creating your home theater area. The best TV screen and sound system, comfortable seating and a welcoming environment that you can invite friends and family over when there’s a big game happening or you want to watch the latest blockbuster release.
That’s great, but in the warm weather do you really want to be huddled up inside when the sun is shining and the pool is calling? You really want to catch the last quarter of the game of the season, but there’s a BBQ lit, and you’re torn between being inside or out.
No problem – Move your home theater outside and enjoy the best of both worlds. If you are scratching your head thinking about sudden downpours, security, sun glare or the lack of space to comfortably spread out, read on and be inspired.
Outdoor-proof Your Home Theater
You might be thinking that it’s all very well wanting to combine watching a great movie with a pool party, but if there’s a sudden downpour, the equipment will be damaged beyond repair. The same goes for a stray soccer ball, vandals or would-be thieves – which could cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars. This doesn’t have to be though, as there’s an excellent outdoor TV cabinet solution that solves all your concerns.
The TV Shield is a lightweight (yet bulletproof!) invention which will revolutionize your home theater watching habits. Designed for those wanting to have a television outside, the TV enclosure is made from a combination of heavy-duty and shatterproof plastic with a steel surround. It’s completely weatherproof and can withstand rain and even frost. The cabinet is tamper-proof. If you are still concerned, there is an additional lock kit you can add in.
Designed for the biggest of screens, The TV Shield fits smoothly over any LED or plasma TV from 40-80″ and is glare-free for those days when the sun is beating down, but the family wants to binge on the latest box set in one run.
Furnishings Fit For A King
Sitting outside to enjoy your home cinema doesn’t mean dragging out camping chairs and sitting the children on hard floor surfaces. There’s every style of the comfortable furnishing are now available, and you can have as plush a sofa in the garden as in the cinema room.
For the children (or adults wanting to really kick back), bean bags are a colorful way to add casual seating – who doesn’t love lounging in one. You want to lay down? Again, no problem – hammocks can be for just you or even a whole family; day beds make it just as easy to sunbathe at the same time you watch TV.
Forget bags of chips or perhaps a cold beer watching a movie indoors. Outside you can fire up the grill, pull drinks from an ice bucket and even cook pizza on a stone. Sizzle a steak on the coals, serve it on crockery from your new outdoor kitchen cabinet and create a stunning salad on the side arm preparation surface.
A small yard isn’t an issue either, as even with space at a premium you can cook like a professional with an aesthetically-pleasing brushed steel table top BBQ.
So what are you waiting for? Don’t let another glorious day pass by, move your home theater outside now, and by the weekend you’ll be kicking back and passing the time with great people, great food and most of all, a great space to view from.
Review: VIZIO M50-D1 SmartCast M-Series Ultra HD HDR Home Theater Display

Disclosure: We received a VIZIO M50-D1 SmartCast Home Theater Display from VIZIO for free, however the opinions expressed are our own.
Lets face it, the way that we consume television has drastically changed over the past few years. While cable TV is still the norm, it’s often supplemented by streaming programming from services like Netflix, Hulu, and countless other sources. And that can get complicated, requiring you to use something like a Roku, Apple TV, or laptop to stream that content to your TV.
Countless smart TV makers have attempted to bridge this gap by offering built-in apps for popular streaming services, and while they work to some extent, they definitely leave something to be desired.
VIZIO took an entirely different route with their SmartCast M-Series Home Theater Display collection, building Google Cast support into each set, which allows you to stream your favorite content from 1000+ apps right to the big screen using the included 6″ Android Tablet Remote! In addition, these models (starting at 50″ and going up to 80″) feature 4K Ultra HD resolution, High Dynamic Range w/ Dolby Vision support, and full-array LED backlighting with up to 64 active LED zones.
We tested out the 50″ VIZIO M50-D1 SmartCast Home Theater Display, which is an absolute steal at $699! How VIZIO is able to offer such a feature-rich set for such a low price is beyond me, but I’m not complaining!
The first thing I noticed while unpacking the set was just how light it was (31 lbs) compared to my old set, due to the fact that it doesn’t have a TV tuner. Seeing as how most people have a cable or satellite set-top box these days, it shouldn’t be an issue for most. But a separate tuner adapter can be purchased if need be.
The VIZIO M50-D1 comes with four HDMI ports to connect your cable or satellite box, Blu-ray player, gaming consoles and more (along with a set of component inputs for older devices), but this TV was really designed with streaming in mind, and it’s incredibly easy to use.
You see, all VIZIO M-Series sets come with a 6″ Android tablet remote along with a wireless charging dock. The tablet comes loaded with the VIZIO SmartCast app and acts as the TV remote, allowing you to power on the TV, adjust the volume, switch inputs, etc. What’s more, the app allows you to cast TV shows, movies, and music from over a thousand apps (like Netflix, Vudu and HBO Now) with a simple tap of the “Cast” button. It’s a total game changer, and even my technophobe wife was able to get the hang of it within a few minutes.
VIZIO’s M-Series also raises the bar on image quality with advanced picture technologies such as Ultra HD and High Dynamic Range with Dolby Vision support, which deliver a word of new depth and contrast with the enriched brightness and vibrancy. The VIZIO M50-D1 also boasts 32 active LED zones which dynamically adjust your screen’s backlight to adapt to the content on-screen to deliver incomparable contrast levels, sharper details and the deepest, purest black levels.
We streamed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in Ultra HD through VUDU last weekend, and the picture quality was just unbelievable! We also tested out a few other Blu-ray and DVD discs and they looked great as well, with the TV handling scaling really well.
Overall, we were really impressed with the VIZIO M50-D1 SmartCast TV and highly recommend it to anyone who’s ready to experience incredible picture quality with 4K Ultra HD and High Dynamic Range, along with a limitless amount of content.. All for less than $700!
