Spider-Man Joins Marvel

In a late night announcement that both shocked and overjoyed most fans, Sony Pictures revealed that they have reached a deal with Marvel Studios to co-opt a new Spider-Man into Marvel’s cinematic universe.

Unfortunately for fans of The Amazing Spider Man franchise, this means Andrew Garfield will not be reprising his role as Peter Parker, but something tells me we won’t have to sit through another origin story for our new one. The new Spider-Man is heavily rumored to make his debut in Captain America: Civil War before getting his own solo movie on July 28th 2017 before probably appearing in the two part Avengers Infinity War film being split over 2018 and 2019.

While it’s certainly going to be an adjustment, this is great news! Even if The Amazing Spider Man franchise had been more well regarded, we would have always wondered what Spider Man would have been capable of by joining this universe.

I’ll certainly miss Andrew Garfield, who’s portrayal gave a nuance and every-man quality to Peter Parker that Toby Maguire missed the mark on a little bit. With that said, there are plenty of actors out there who are more than capable of taking on the mantle, and in the long run, we should all be appreciative of this change if it all goes to plan.
