Top 15 Hip-Hop Albums Of All Time

Published

on

We’ve been working on a list of the Top 15 Hip-Hop Albums Of All Time for the past month now. We put together our own list of picks, but then decided it’d be better if we got opinions from other folks.

So we polled hundreds of people from across the country, and asked them for their top picks. We used that data to help build the list you see before you. We know this list won’t please everyone, and that’s bound to happen with something objective like this.

We think this list represents the best hip-hop albums, and we’d love to hear what you think!

  1. 2Pac – Me Against The World
  2. The Notorious B.I.G – Life After Death
  3. Dr. Dre – The Chronic
  4. Eminem – The Marshall Mathers LP
  5. Snoop Doggy Dogg – Doggy Style
  6. Jay-Z – Vol. 2, Hard Knock Life
  7. Fugees – The Score
  8. Wu Tang Clan – Enter The Wu
  9. Beastie Boys – Licensed To Ill
  10. Outkast – Speakerboxxx/ The Love Below
  11. Kanye West – College Dropout

It wasn’t too hard to choose the Top 15 artists. But picking the albums proved a little trickier..

Here were some of the choices we struggled with:

Me Against The World vs. All Eyez On Me?
Life After Death vs. Ready To Die?
The Marshall Mathers LP vs. The Slim Shady EP?
    College Dropout vs. Graduation?
    Fugees vs. Lauryn Hill?

If this was a Top 50 list, we could have included all of these in there, but when narrowing it down to the Top 15, something had to give.

I agree with some, not all though. I’m surprised to see that Nas didn’t make the list.

Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ In A Major Key Sounds Pretty Crazy

Published

on

Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” perfectly captured the teenage angst of the early ’90s, a dark and moody grunge track track that helped propel the band from cult fandom to mainstream success.

The song was originally written in minor key (which is sad, bleak and eerie by definition), but a group called Sleep Good decided to take their signature hit and pitch-shift it to a major key, completely changing the tone of the song and turning it into a happy-go-lucky pop punk hit that’s surprisingly catchy.

While I know I should hate it on principal alone, I can’t stop listening to Nirvirna – Teen Sprite for whatever reason. Maybe it’s because it reminds me of Everclear, Weezer, and other bands from the 90’s..

Give it a listen and let us know what you think of it.

Dustin Hensley May Be A Country Boy, But His Music Is Anything But!

Dustin Hensley - Ships

Looking for some new tunes to jam out to? Then you’ve got to check out Dustin Hensley‘s latest EP, Ships. For those of you unfamiliar with Hensley, he’s a “good ole southern boy” from Tennessee who is putting out music like nothing you’ve ever heard before. His music is full of pure country story telling, but mixed in with great dance and pop sensibilities, creating a genre all his own.

“At the end of the day, I’m a lot of different things and a lot of different sounds,” said Hensley. “And I’ve decided to throw all of them—pop, R&B, country, classic rock, southern gospel—into my music. Call it whatever you want. If you think it’s pop, great. If you think it’s country, awesome. No matter what, it’s me telling stories. My life and my truth.”

While I’m not really a fan of country music, there’s just something about Hensley’s music that has me rocking out to it. I’ve been listing to Ships ever since it dropped last week, and I can’t get enough of it!

You can listen to all five tracks in their entirety at www.dustinhensleymusic.com, so give them a listen and let us know what you think!

Britney Spears Is Back With A Seriously Sexy New Music Video

Published

on

Britney Spears just unveiled a seriously sexy music video for her new single Make Me, which features Britney and some friends holding auditions to find Brit’s on-screen love interest for the “Make Me” video, and ordering a number of men to strip down for an impromptu, naughty casting session.

But don’t worry, the focus goes back to Britney when the chorus hits, where we see her dancing in a white-lit hallway in lacy black underwear, looking absolutely incredible.. Seriously, this 30-something mother of two looks every bit as hot as she did back in her Hit Me Baby One More Time days..

“Make me oooh” indeed!

The video is hot as hell, but apparently there was an even racier version (shot by Dave LaChapelle) that got scrapped for being “too hot for TV”.. If you’re curious what the original video looked like, there’s a low-res version floating around the web.
