Don’t Upgrade To Words With Friends v4.00!

Published

on

This morning, iTunes said there was a new version of Word With Friends, so I updated to it.. Guess I should have read the reviews before doing so, because check out what happens when I launch the app now:

Awesome. I was in the middle of 6 seperate games, and now I can’t even get into WWF anymore! The developers promised that this new version would bring a number of improvements, but the review section on iTunes is flooded with complaints. The largest complaint is over the new advertisements, namely 15 second video ads that are REALLY intrusive. Hey, I’m all for app developers making money, but their old ads were bad enough, I can’t even imagine what it’s like now. (Because I can’t get into the app anymore!!)

So we’ve got an update that will frequently cause your game to hang, crash, or make it plain unusable. How did this make it past the QA guys?!

If anyone knows how I can downgrade to the previous version, let me know. Thanks!

Go to iPhone Settings > Notifications > Words Free
There you can adjust sounds, alerts and badges. I don’t know if it’ll help, but worth a shot. The video ads are super intrusive!!

I tried playing with those settings, but it made no difference.

I then deleted and re-installed the app. That didn’t help either.

Finally, I hard rebooted the phone. Now I can get back into WWF!

Talk about a frustrating experience, but I’m just happy that it’s fixed now.

I used to be addicted to this game, but lately it’s just lost it’s luster.

I’d play 5 games at a time. 2 people would usually resign after I started beating them, 2 people would cheat and rack up 35+ points per turn, and the last person would play 1 word per day, causing the game to drag on FOREVER!
