Have You Done Your Taxes Yet?

Published

April 15th is right around the corner! Have you done your taxes yet? I’ve been putting it off for over a month now, but with April 15th rapidly approaching, I finally did them today.

(In the past, I’ve had my accountant take care of this for me.. But this year my tax situation was less complicated, so I decided to e-file it myself!)

The next step was to figure out which tax software to use. My folks usually use TaxCut, so I decided to go with that. Only now, it’s called H&R Block At Home 2010 Deluxe. Amazon.com sells it as a digital download, which saved me a trip to Best Buy!

H&R Block At Home is actually pretty simple to use. They hold your hand and take you through the process step by step. My situation ended up being a little more complicated than I had first anticipated (a number of 1099s I received required me to fill out a Schedule C, something completely new to me), but the program made sure I stayed on track. It searches for hundreds of deductions to get you the biggest refund, and they showed me some deductions that I wasn’t even aware of!

In total, it took me about two hours to do my taxes. I figured I would owe some money, and my guestimate was pretty accurate. So the day turned out pretty good after all.. 🙂

Great reminder! I’ve been wanting to get around it but haven’t start it yet. Only a week left so it’s time to get all the files out and start preparing for this taxs judgment day!
