Why Homegating Is A Better Option Than Going To The Actual Game

Watching the game at home

The NFL regular season officially kicks off this weekend, and I couldn’t be more excited! But as much as I like attending football games in person and sharing in the experience with 50,000 of my fellow fans, I decided to give up my beloved season tickets this year and instead watch the games from the comfort of my home. And it turns out I’m not the only one who feels this way..

You see, according to a recent survey commissioned by leading appliance and electronics retailer hhgregg, 70% of football fans would rather get together with friends at home to enjoy the game than actually go to the game. And when you think about it, it makes perfect sense.

You’ve got to deal with horrendous traffic going to and coming from the game, the obscene rate they charge for parking, the overpriced concession stands (seriously, $9 for a beer?!), long lines for the restrooms, not to mention the football ticket prices themselves, which keep going up every year. And it gets really cold here in Philadelphia by the middle of the season. Brrr!

When you watch the game from home, all of those worries go away. You can watch all the action play out in stunning HD from the convenience and comfort of your home, and thanks to the DVR, you can replay epic plays or pause the game for a much-needed bathroom break. And during commercials, you can check the scores for other games, or check on your fantasy football lineup.

“The emergence of new TV technology is one of the drivers of the rise in homegating in recent years,” said Chris Sutton, Vice President of Marketing at hhgregg. “With new 4k-UHD curved televisions, you and your guests have a better view from the couch than the 50-yard line.”

I am so with you on this! We just bought a 50 inch ulta hi-def 4K flatscreen and it was so much better watching the game on my couch this past Sunday! My own clean bathroom, cheap beer, and better food, plus no traveling to and from the game. So much better than dealing with all the idiots at the game!
