Why Running Shoes Do More Harm Than Good

Published

on

Since you were a baby, you’ve worn shoes. You might remember your first Nikes or Adidas too: A nice thick sole with padding up to the base of the ankle.

In a few remote parts of the world, though, nobody ever wears shoes – And evidence shows that they’re in fact in much better shape because of it!

There is so much back and forth information on this subject. If you do plan to pursue barefoot running, please do it slowly, and please make sure you have all the facts before proceeding.

I definitely feel, further injuries to runners is not caused by new footwear but by overuse and bad training methods (ie. ramping up mileage too quickly) and not being fitted properly and getting the appropriate shoes.

Get to a good local running store, make sure they get you on the treadmill and make sure you are fitted properly. Follow a proper training cycle when ramping up miles and learn to take step back weeks and rest days as appropriate.

    Good luck!
