Krispy Kreme’s Limited-Edition Artemis II Doughnut Is Out Of This World
Get ready for liftoff! Krispy Kreme is dropping a limited-edition Artemis II Doughnut to mark NASA’s upcoming Artemis II mission, the first crewed deep space flight in over 50 years. But you’ve got three days to grab one, so here’s what you need to know.
What Is The Artemis II Mission?
Before we get to the doughnuts, here’s a little context on why this is a big deal. Artemis II will be NASA’s first crewed mission aboard the Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft. Four astronauts will spend roughly 10 days in deep space, journeying around the Moon while putting the spacecraft’s systems through their paces with an actual crew on board.
The data collected from this test flight will pave the way for future Artemis missions, including landing American astronauts back on the Moon for the first time in more than 50 years. That’s genuinely historic stuff.
What Does The Artemis II Doughnut Look Like?
Krispy Kreme isn’t just slapping a new name on an old product here. The Artemis II Doughnut starts with the brand’s iconic Original Glazed base, then gets a full mission-ready makeover:
- Dipped in blue vanilla-flavored icing
- Sprinkled with a mix of OREO crunch and white nonpareils
- Finished with a
- Topped with a red chevron nodding to the NASA logo
It’s familiar, nostalgic, and mission-ready.
When and Where Can You Get It?
This one is strictly limited, so don’t sleep on it. The Artemis II Doughnut is available March 31 through April 2 only at participating Krispy Kreme shops nationwide. It’s also available for pickup or delivery through the Krispy Kreme app and website.
What Krispy Kreme Is Saying About It
The brand is clearly proud of tying this drop to such a landmark moment in space history. As Alison Holder, Krispy Kreme’s Chief Brand and Product Officer, put it: “Big moments bring people together, and it doesn’t get much bigger than humans heading back into deep space. We took our iconic Original Glazed doughnut and gave it a mission-worthy makeover so fans can celebrate Artemis II in a fun, delicious way, right alongside history.”
Krispy Kreme Has Done This Before
This isn’t the first time Krispy Kreme has used doughnuts to mark a milestone in space. The company has a long history of tying special releases to major space events, going all the way back to serving fresh Original Glazed doughnuts at NASA’s Apollo 11 launch in 1969. Since then, they’ve celebrated NASA’s Perseverance Rover landing on Mars in 2021, released the Artemis Moon Doughnut to commemorate Artemis I in 2022, and created doughnuts around supermoons and total solar eclipses.
