BMW Z4 Final Edition

After more than two decades of delivering pure driving thrills, the BMW Z4 is taking its final bow. BMW has just announced the Z4 Final Edition, a limited-run M40i model that serves as a fitting send-off for one of the most beloved two-seat roadsters on the market.

Needless to say, if you’ve been waiting for the right moment to grab a Z4, this is it. Because once they’re gone, they’re gone for good.

A Striking Send-Off in Frozen Black

The Z4 Final Edition isn’t just another special paint job slapped on an existing model. BMW is pulling out all the stops with an exclusive BMW Individual Frozen Black metallic finish that makes the roadster’s muscular lines pop. The slick matte black exterior is accented by the Shadowline Package, which adds high-gloss black trim to the mirror caps, kidney grille, lower air intake, air breathers, and exhaust finishers.

Topping it off is a Moonlight Black soft top and aggressive red brake calipers that peek through the staggered 19-inch front and 20-inch rear M Dual-Spoke Bicolor 800M wheels. This thing looks mean, and it’s supposed to.

Manual or Automatic? Your Choice

Here’s where BMW deserves major credit: they’re offering the Z4 Final Edition with both a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission at the same $77,500 MSRP (plus $1,175 destination). In an era where manuals are rapidly disappearing, giving enthusiasts the choice is a big deal.

If you opt for the stick shift, you’ll get something extra special – the chassis tuning developed for the Edition Handschalter Package. This includes unique auxiliary springs at the front and rear axles, a specially reinforced anti-roll bar clamp up front, and reconfigured mapping for the electronic rear dampers and variable sport steering. Even the traction control and M Sport differential get unique control logic tuned specifically for manual transmission driving.

Red-Hot Interior Details

Pop the door and you’ll immediately notice the “Z4 FINAL EDITION” inscribed door sill plates. Inside, the cabin is finished in Vernasca Leather and Alcantara with distinctive red contrast stitching running throughout the instrument panel, center console, door panels, and M Sport seats. The floor mats feature red piping, and even the seatbelts get the M tricolor treatment. Small touches that make this Final Edition feel genuinely special.

BMW hasn’t skimped on the tech either. The Z4 Final Edition comes loaded with the Driving Assistance Package, Premium Package, and a Harman Kardon surround sound system as standard equipment.

The Power Under the Hood

At the heart of the Z4 Final Edition is the same 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-six that has been thrilling drivers in the M40i (and the Supra). This engine pumps out 382 horsepower at 5,800-6,500 rpm and 369 lb-ft of torque from 1,800-5,000 rpm—a powerband that’s as flexible as it is potent.

With the 8-speed automatic, the Z4 rockets from 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds. Choose the manual and you’re looking 4.2 seconds – still seriously quick for a roadster, and way more engaging. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph regardless of transmission choice.

A Legacy Worth Celebrating

The Z4’s bloodline runs deep in BMW’s history of 2-seat sports cars, connecting it to legends like the BMW 328 Roadster, the gorgeous 507, and the modern Z8. The first Z4 dropped in 2002 as the successor to the Z3, and it immediately set new standards for torsional stiffness and handling dynamics thanks to its perfect 50/50 weight distribution.

The second generation arrived in 2008 with a trick electro-hydraulic retractable hardtop, while the current third-generation model (which debuted at Pebble Beach in 2018) brought things back to basics with a traditional fabric soft top and a driver-focused interior.

Limited Production Window

BMW will only build the Z4 Final Edition from February to April 2026, and they are keeping production numbers extremely limited. There’s just one configuration to choose from – your only decision is which transmission you want. Given the limited production run and the end-of-era significance, these Final Editions are likely to become collector’s items.

The Bottom Line

At $78,675 all-in, the Z4 Final Edition isn’t cheap, but it’s a proper send-off for a roadster that has given enthusiasts decades of top-down thrills. With its exclusive Frozen Black paint, red-accented interior, available manual transmission, and 382-horsepower straight-six, this is the Z4 going out on a high note.

If you’ve been on the fence about pulling the trigger on a Z4, this is your last chance to own a piece of BMW roadster history. Once the Final Edition production run ends in April 2026, the 2-seat BMW roadster era closes.. at least for now.
