Norwegian Cruise Line Just Launched Its Newest Ship, And It’s Built For Adventure
Norwegian Cruise Line officially christened its newest vessel, Norwegian Luna, in Miami this past Friday, and if you’ve been thinking about booking a Caribbean cruise, this ship is worth a serious look. Clocking in at 1,056 feet long with a capacity of 3,565 guests, Luna is the latest addition to NCL’s Prima Class (the same family as Norwegian Aqua), and it comes loaded with features aimed squarely at guys who want more than a pool deck and a buffet.
“Norwegian Luna represents the evolution of NCL — a brand built on freedom, flexibility and delivering experiences that resonate with every type of traveler,” said Marc Kazlauskas, president of NCL. “Curated to deliver attractions for families with the NCL-exclusive Aqua Slidecoaster, and the all-new Moon Climber and Luna Midway activities; as well as adult-only experiences like the late-night production of ‘LunaTique,’ Norwegian Luna is the perfect ship for multigenerational travelers looking for a warm vacation in the tropics.
The Fastest Water Slides At Sea Are On This Ship
If bragging rights matter to you, Norwegian Luna has got you covered. The ship features the NCL-exclusive Aqua Slidecoaster, which is officially the longest and fastest slides at sea. It runs dual slides with a magnetic lift that launches riders through two separate courses. It’s the kind of ride you’d expect at a major theme park, not floating off the coast of the Bahamas.
Beyond the Slidecoaster, the ship also offers the Glow Court (a digital sports complex), the Luna Game Zone (arcade games and VR experiences), Moon Climber (a multi-level obstacle course for adults and kids), Luna Midway (carnival-style outdoor games), and Horizon Park (complimentary lawn games on the top deck). In short, there’s no excuse to be bored.
After-Dark Options That Actually Deliver
Daytime fun aside, Norwegian Luna brings some serious nightlife energy too. The ship hosts “LunaTique”, a 21-and-older late-night show at The Improv at Sea that blends bold visuals, specialty cocktails, and character-driven performances in an intimate, Las Vegas-inspired setting. It’s a debut exclusive to Norwegian Luna.
For live music fans, Syd Norman’s Pour House is back with “A Tribute to Eagles,” and there’s also “Elton: A Celebration of Elton John” and “HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder,” a cirque-style multimedia production. There’s no shortage of ways to fill an evening.
Luna’s Bar And Restaurant Lineup Rivals A Resort
With 17 dining options from bow-to-stern, Luna guests can revel in a variety of more than 15 cuisines from around the world, including modern Italian at Onda by Scarpetta, authentic Thai at Sukhothai, elegant and classic French at Le Bistro, and so much more. After indulging in exquisite cuisine at one of Norwegian Luna’s specialty or complimentary dining venues, guests are invited to unwind at a selection of 18 bars and lounges, including the intimate Whiskey Bar, the bustling Belvedere Bar, and NCL’s Sail and Sustain cocktail bar, Metropolitan Bar.
For guests who want a premium experience, The Haven by Norwegian is the ship’s exclusive “ship-within-a-ship” suite complex, complete with a private restaurant, bar, and lounge.
Where Norwegian Luna Is Sailing
Norwegian Luna kicks off Caribbean itineraries from Miami in April 2026, running through April 2027. Routes hit both Eastern and Western Caribbean, including stops at NCL’s two private resort destinations:
- Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas — Recently upgraded with the Great Life Lagoon (a massive pool complex with swim-up bars and cabanas), an adults-only Vibe Shore Club with private beach access, and the Great Tides Waterpark opening this summer — 19 waterslides, cliffside jumps, a 9,000 sq. ft. kids splash zone, and an 800-foot accelerated river experience.
- Harvest Caye, Belize — NCL’s resort-style destination on the coast of Central America.
After the Caribbean season wraps, Norwegian Luna heads to New York for Bermuda sailings from April through October 2027, with four- and seven-day round-trip itineraries and flexible port stays.
The Ship’s Christening Was A Full Event
The official christening took place at NCL’s LEED Gold Certified terminal at PortMiami with over 2,000 guests on hand. The ship’s godmother is street artist ELLE, who also painted the ship’s hull artwork – a piece called “La Luna” that explores humanity’s connection to the moon and the cosmos.
ELLE described the experience: “Celebrating Norwegian Luna as the ship’s godmother is an incredible honor, and creating ‘La Luna’ has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career. The moon has always symbolized connection, rhythm and transformation, forces that mirror the journeys we take in our own lives. I hope every guest feels a sense of wonder and possibility as Norwegian Luna carries them toward new horizons.”
NCL Holdings CEO John W. Chidsey also marked the moment: “The christening of Norwegian Luna marks an important milestone for our Company and a moment of great pride for our entire team. I look forward to the remarkable experiences she will deliver and to the exciting future ahead for our brand and our guests.”
Bottom Line: Should You Book Norwegian Luna?
If you’re planning a Caribbean cruise in 2026 or early 2027, Norwegian Luna checks a lot of boxes.. especially if you’re traveling with family or a group with varied interests.
The combination of world-record water slides, serious nightlife, a diverse dining lineup, and two private island stops makes it one of the more compelling new ships to launch this year.
