American Airlines Adds Bus Service From Philadelphia to Trenton-Mercer Airport
If you hate the hassle of driving over an hour to Philadelphia International Airport, parking a million miles away, and dealing with long security lines, American Airlines has you covered. Starting September 22, American is adding Trenton-Mercer Airport (TTN) to its list of regional hubs connected to Philadelphia (PHL) by Landline, their premium motorcoach service.
What Is Landline and Why Should You Care?
Landline is a luxury motorcoach experience that’s designed to feel like part of your flight. You book your itinerary through American Airlines just like you normally would, and instead of a short regional flight, you get a first-class-style bus ride, complete with leather reclining seats, free Wi-Fi, in-seat power, and streaming entertainment. Flight-level comfort, but on the road.
You’ll also only have to check your bags and clear security once at your starting airport, and your luggage gets transferred seamlessly from shuttle to plane. For anyone who’s made a tight connection or gotten stuck dragging a carry-on across a terminal, this is a game-changer.
New Route: Trenton to Philly (and the World)
The newest addition is Trenton-Mercer Airport (TTN), located in Ewing Township, New Jersey. While TTN has limited flight options on Frontier Airlines, this Landline connection instantly opens the door to American’s global network via PHL, one of the busiest airports in the US.
According to American’s announcement, there will be three daily departures each way starting September 22. Once the route goes live, passengers from Central Jersey can check their bags and clear security in Trenton, then sit back and relax on their ride to Philly like they’re already in the air.
Where Else Can You Use Landline?
This new Trenton connection makes five regional airports now linked to Philadelphia by Landline:
- Allentown/Bethlehem, PA (ABE)
- Atlantic City, NJ (ACY)
- Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, PA (AVP)
- Wilmington, DE (ILG)
- Trenton-Mercer, NJ (TTN) – starting Sept. 22
All of these offer the same seamless connection experience, and yes, you can earn AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points for the ride.
Landline’s Impact at PHL
This isn’t just a side hustle for American. The Landline network is quickly becoming a major part of their regional strategy. Nick Johnson, vice president and head of revenue at The Landline Company, shared this on LinkedIn:
“By this fall, The Landline Company will feed over 1,500 daily seats into American’s Philadelphia hub from five Northeast cities, unlocking seamless global connectivity for hundreds of thousands of travelers each year. With 22 daily roundtrips, Landline will become the sixth largest operating carrier at PHL by daily departures, surpassing both Southwest and Delta (mainline).”
That’s a bold claim, but one that shows just how serious this service is.
How It Works
Booking is easy. You just go to aa.com and book a ticket like normal. If you’re flying from say Trenton to Los Angeles, your itinerary will show a connection “Operated by The Landline Company” from TTN to PHL, and then your connecting flight.
To PHL:
- Check in for your trip 24 hours before your shuttle departure – same as you would for a flight.
- Arrive at your regional airport, check your bags and clear security as normal.
- Board the shuttle to your assigned seat – They’ll load your bags and transfer them to your final destination.
- Go straight to your connecting gate in PHL and board your flight.
From PHL:
- Check in for your trip 24 hours before your departure.
- Check your bags as normal – They’ll transfer them from the plane to the shuttle in PHL.
- Once you land in PHL, go to the gate listed on your boarding pass to board the shuttle.
- Board the shuttle to your assigned seat.
- Collect your bags from Baggage Claim at your final destination.
Why This Matters for Guys Who Travel
Whether you’re flying for work, planning a weekend in Vegas, or booking a Caribbean escape with the crew, this new bus service means less stress, more convenience, and fewer airport headaches. You can now skip the long drive to Philly and start relaxing the moment you leave Trenton.
Tickets for the Trenton route are already available on American’s website, so if you’ve been putting off booking a fall getaway or business trip, now’s the time to do so.
