Gaming on the go is about to get a serious upgrade, as ASUS Republic of Gamers has partnered with AR glasses manufacturer XREAL to launch the ROG XREAL R1, the world’s first gaming glasses featuring a 240Hz micro-OLED display. Introduced this week at CES, these AR glasses are designed to deliver massive-screen gaming experiences anywhere you take them.

If you’ve ever wanted to play games on what feels like a theater-sized screen without actually needing a massive TV, the ROG XREAL R1 might be exactly what you’re looking for.

What Makes These Gaming Glasses Special?

The standout feature of the ROG XREAL R1 is the 240Hz refresh rate on a micro-OLED FHD (1920 x 1080) display. For context, that’s twice the refresh rate of standard gaming monitors, which means buttery-smooth visuals with virtually no motion blur. The glasses create a virtual 171-inch screen that appears to float about 4 meters in front of you, with a 57-degree field of view that covers 95% of your focused viewing area.

At just 91 grams (roughly the weight of a deck of cards), these glasses are designed to be worn comfortably during extended gaming sessions. The display uses Sony’s 0.55-inch micro-OLED technology with 700 nits peak brightness and 107% sRGB color coverage, ensuring vibrant, accurate colors whether you’re exploring dark dungeons or bright outdoor environments.

Motion-to-photon latency clocks in at just 2ms, which is critical for competitive gaming where every millisecond counts.

Connect to Almost Anything

One of the most impressive aspects of the ROG XREAL R1 is its versatility. The included ROG Control Dock features two HDMI 2.0 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4 input, letting you switch between your gaming PC, PlayStation, Xbox, or any other HDMI device with a single button.

For ROG Ally owners, there’s an even better option: you can connect directly via USB-C for a completely plug-and-play experience. No setup, no configuration – just plug in and start gaming on that massive virtual screen. You can still use the Ally’s touchscreen controls while wearing the glasses and adjust the screen size and distance with simple button presses thanks to the built-in X1 spatial co-processing chip.

The Control Dock supports up to 4K@60Hz video input, though the glasses themselves display at 1080p.

Smart Features for Real-World Use

ASUS didn’t just focus on raw specs – they’ve added thoughtful features that make the ROG XREAL R1 practical for everyday use. The electrochromic lens tech is particularly clever: the lenses automatically adjust their transparency based on lighting conditions. When you look away from your virtual screen, the lenses become more transparent so that you can see your surroundings. Look back at the screen, and they tint to improve contrast and reduce eye strain.

You can also manually adjust the tinting across three levels depending on whether you are gaming in a bright room or in a dimly-lit space.

The glasses support native 3 Degrees of Freedom (3DoF) with Anchor mode, which lets you place your virtual screen anywhere in your physical space, or have it follow your head movements. There’s also support for 6DoF for more advanced spatial tracking.

Immersive Audio Without Headphones

Sound is handled by Bose technology built directly into the glasses, creating a rich 3D audio experience without the need for separate headphones. Every detail, from subtle footsteps to distant explosions, is rendered with lifelike clarity and spatial accuracy, giving players heightened awareness to sense the action around them and react instantly.

This is particularly useful for competitive multiplayer games where directional audio can give you a tactical advantage.

The ROG Ecosystem Expands

ASUS has been steadily building out its gaming hardware lineup, and the ROG XREAL R1 fits naturally into that ecosystem.

The partnership with XREAL, described as “an award-winning global leader in consumer AR glasses,” brings specialized AR expertise to ROG’s gaming-focused engineering. The result is what ASUS calls “the next evolution of spatial gaming displays.”

Pricing and Availability

The ASUS ROG XREAL R1 is expected to ship globally “in the first half of 2026” according to XREAL, but pricing hasn’t been announced just yet. The ROG XREAL R1 will be available with the ROG Control Dock included.

For gamers who travel frequently, play in small living spaces, or just want a more immersive experience than a traditional monitor can provide, the ROG XREAL R1 is an intriguing new option. The combination of high refresh rates, low latency, and broad device support could make it the breakthrough product that finally brings AR gaming glasses into the mainstream.
