If you missed your chance to apply for the most extreme Mustang ever built, you better mark your calendar, because Ford is reopening the Mustang GTD application window on April 17. And this time the stakes are even bigger, as this round covers the next 3 years of production.

The Most Capable Mustang Ever Made

As you probably know, the Mustang GTD isn’t just another performance trim. It’s a $325,000+ American supercar that made history as the first car from an American automaker to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in under seven minutes. Under the hood is a supercharged 5.2-liter V8, backed by the latest in active aerodynamics and race-derived engineering. This Stang is the pinnacle of what Ford knows how to build.

Fun fact, the decision to open the Mustang GTD application window on April 17 isn’t random. It was on April 17, 1964, that the Mustang made its world debut at the New York World’s Fair. Now on the Mustang’s 62nd birthday, you can apply for your chance to buy the Nürburgring-slaying GTD. It’s a fitting way to celebrate six decades of American muscle.

Unlike the initial 2024 application window, which opened for roughly a month before Ford sent out decisions by late August, this round is significantly broader in scope. Ford says the applications will cover the next three years of production, likely spanning the 2027, 2028, and 2029 model years. Buyers who get approved will work directly with the Ford Mustang GTD Concierge team for a fully personalized purchase experience.

And for the thousands of GTD applicants who were turned away the first time around, here’s a silver lining – Ford’s original rejection email stated, “Your application will remain on file, and you will only need to update it with any new information if the application window reopens.” That means previous applicants may be able to re-apply quickly without starting from scratch.

Ford has also teased that more details about the Mustang GTD and what’s coming in 2026 will be revealed in the weeks ahead, so stay tuned.

As Ford puts it: “If you don’t try, you’ll never know.” This may be your best shot yet at owning one of the most talked-about American performance cars in decades. Don’t sleep on it!
