The 2026 Ford Mustang FX Package Brings Old School Fox Body Vibes
If you’ve ever daydreamed about cruising in a Fox Body Mustang with Eye of the Tiger blasting from the stereo, Ford has just made your retro fantasies come true. The Blue Oval is going full throwback with the new 2026 Mustang FX Package, a special appearance package designed to bring the best of the 1980s back to the streets, only this time it’s wrapped around a modern performance machine.
This isn’t just a decal slap or lazy retro badge. The Mustang FX Package is a full-on homage to the third-generation Mustang, aka the legendary Fox Body. It captures the look and feel of that iconic era, while fitting seamlessly into today’s seventh-generation Mustang lineup. (Speaking of letters, FX is a play on Fox, get it?)
Old-School Design, Modern Execution
There’s a reason the Fox Body Mustang still has a cult following. Its boxy, no-nonsense lines defined a generation of performance cars, and now the FX Package taps straight into that energy. Ford is clearly targeting guys who came of age in the late ’80s and ’90s, many of whom are now in a prime position to snag their dream car.
The FX Package isn’t just about looks. It’s about identity, a mix of nostalgia and modern style that shows off Mustang heritage without looking like a retro costume. This is for guys who grew up with posters of a 5.0 Mustang on their bedroom wall, but who now want those vibes with 21st-century tech under the hood.
Wheels, Badging, and Those Sweet, White Details
One of the most instantly recognizable/divisive elements of the FX Package is its wheel design. The standard option is a new twist on Mustang’s 19-inch split five-spoke setup. But if you opt for the Performance Package, you’ll get a wheel supposedly directly by classic Fox Body rims. Though to me, it looks more rally-esqe than anything else.
Both versions come in mid-gloss Oxford White, complete with color-matched center caps that feature the Mustang GT wordmark in a brand-new, FX-specific font. This wordmark (which was inspired by the 1987–1993 Mustangs) also shows up in the rear window of coupe models, just like the old days.
Ford didn’t stop there. You’ll find Oxford White accents on the 5.0-liter, GT, and Mustang Pony badges. Even the grille gets in on the action: Performance Pack cars have white nostrils set into a gloss black hex-pattern grille, while standard FX Package models use Dark Carbonized Gray nostrils for a more low-key look.
Out back, the FX Package debuts white taillights, a pretty departure from the traditional red, and a visual punch that feels both futuristic and nostalgic. Like them? These taillights will be available through the Ford Performance Parts catalog, so you can swap them onto any seventh-gen Mustang if you’re looking to upgrade your rear view.
Inside the Cabin: A Throwback With Taste
Slip into the driver’s seat and the throwback continues. Ford redesigned the interior to echo the plaid seat inserts found in classic Fox Body models. But instead of cloth, we get a slick, modern twist: black and white perforated leather, available across both standard bucket seats and coupe-only Recaro sport seats.
The interior stitching is anything but basic. City Silver and Adriatic Blue dual-contrast thread runs through the seats, dash, doors, steering wheel, and center console, giving it a bold but polished look. A Mustang GT IP badge in the FX-specific font reminds you that this isn’t your average GT.
Look closer, and you’ll find Dark Alley trim, borrowed from the high-performance Mustang Dark Horse, a subtle touch that elevates the overall vibe and blends performance pedigree with visual swagger.
New Paint, New Options, New Personality
To go along with the FX Package launch, Ford is adding two head-turning colors to the 2026 Mustang lineup. First up is Adriatic Blue Metallic, a sharp new hue that’s inspired by the teal shades found on Fox Bodies back in the day. Then there’s the return of Orange Fury Metallic Tricoat, a fan-favorite color making its first appearance since 2019 that is perfect for guys who want to make a statement.
Both colors will be available across EcoBoost, GT, and Dark Horse trims. And if you like your seatbelts to pop, new options include International Orange, Prime Blue, and Black with a red stripe. Whether you want a clean stealth look or some extra visual spice, Ford is letting you dial in the details.
Availability: When and Where To Get It
The new FX Package is exclusively available on Mustang GT Premium models, regardless of whether you go coupe or convertible, manual or automatic. It also works whether you opt for the Performance Package or not. Basically, it’s all about letting you customize your Mustang with max style and minimum restrictions.
Want one? You won’t have to wait long. The order banks for the 2026 Mustang lineup open in late June 2025. So if you’re thinking about adding a little vintage flair to your garage, now’s the time to make your move.
Our Verdict: A Retro Revival Done Right
Ford didn’t just throw some white accents on a Mustang and call it a day. The FX Package is a thoughtful, detail-rich tribute to one of the most beloved Mustang generations ever built. It’s got the ’80s look, modern muscle, and plenty of customization options to make it your own.
It’s old school cool done right, and we think it’s pretty rad!
