The Manual 911 Carrera S Is Back For 2027, And It’s Exactly What You Hoped For

Porsche just dropped some news at Monterey Car Week that’s going to make a lot of driving purists very happy. The six-speed manual transmission is officially returning to the 911 Carrera S in North America, and it’s not just a stripped-down throwback. This thing comes loaded.

When the 992.2 generation Carrera S first launched, it came exclusively with an eight-speed PDK automatic. Enthusiasts pushed back, and Porsche listened. Enter the new 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S with MT Package, a North America exclusive that pairs a proper stick shift with a serious upgrade in standard equipment.

Why This Matters To Driving Enthusiasts

Porsche isn’t just slapping a manual gearbox into an existing car and calling it a day. The MT Package builds on the momentum of the 911 Carrera T, delivering what the brand calls “an even sportier option to the Carrera model family that begs for backroads and taking the long way home.”

“As a lifelong driving enthusiast I’m personally excited to announce the return of the manual transmission to the Carrera S,” Timo Resch, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America said. “While some brands are abandoning the manual, we are proud to continue offering three pedals in a range of products that speaks to different use cases. Managing a clutch and shift lever isn’t for everyone, but for the drivers who want it there really is no substitute.”

That’s seven manual 911 variants now available in North America, from the entry-level Carrera T all the way up to the track-focused GT3, GT3 Touring, and GT3 S/C.

What You’re Actually Getting

Now this isn’t some bare-bones enthusiast special. The new Carrera S with MT Package is rear-wheel drive only, and it comes standard with a stacked list of performance hardware: rear-axle steering, a PASM Sport suspension that drops the ride height by 10 mm, the Sport Chrono Package, unique exhaust tuning and a walnut shift handle to remind you what you’re rowing through the gears with.

Porsche also brought center lock wheels to a Carrera S for the first time ever, shaving more than 17 lbs. off the car compared to the standard wheel setup. Add in four-way Sport Seats Plus, titanium exhaust outlets with black trim, a standard SportDesign front fascia, and a red “S” badge on the rear (a nod to a mod North American fans have been requesting for years), and this car is dressed for the part.

Power, Weight, and Numbers That Matter

Under the rear decklid sits the same 473-hp 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six that makes the Carrera S such a well-rounded performer. The manual coupe tips the scales at just 3,327 pounds, only 11 pounds heavier than the featherweight 911 Carrera T coupe.

Braking duties fall to cast iron discs measuring 408mm up front and 380mm out back, clamped by six-piston calipers in front and four-piston calipers in the rear. If you want to shed even more weight, Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) are available as an option, along with those carbon fiber bucket seats. Notably, PCCB availability is one more thing that separates this car from the Carrera T.

Make It Yours

Porsche isn’t holding back on personalization either. Buyers get access to 17 exterior paint colors, more than 70 leather interior combinations, and (availability permitting) Paint to Sample and Paint to Sample Plus for a truly one-off build.

There are also two optional packages worth knowing about. The exterior package adds HD-Matrix Design headlights in black with a white ring, Ceramica-finished wheels, red “S” badging with white PORSCHE lettering out back, body-colored mirror housings, and puddle lights that project the six-speed shift pattern onto the ground when you approach the car. Small touch, big flex.

The interior package brings Plaid Sport-Tex seat centers with Chalk stripes, matching seat belts and stitching, Ceramica trim with black brushed aluminum accents, a white-ringed Sport Chrono clock face, and brushed black aluminum door sill guards.

Pricing And When You Can Order

The 2027 911 Carrera S with MT Package is available to order at Porsche Centers starting now. Pricing starts at $167,100 for the coupe and $181,000 for the Cabriolet, plus a $2,350 delivery, processing and handling fee. Deliveries are expected to start by the end of 2026.

If you’ve been waiting for Porsche to give the people what they want, this is it. Three pedals, six speeds, and a whole lot more standard gear than the outgoing Carrera S ever offered.
