Porsche has officially unveiled the 2027 911 GT3 S/C, and it might be the most satisfying 911 to come along in quite some time. The recipe is straightforward but irresistible: take the high-revving, naturally aspirated flat-six from the GT3, combine it with the carbon-fiber lightweight components from the 911 S/T, and wrap it all in an open-top body with a fully automatic convertible roof.

The result is a car that delivers everything enthusiasts love about the GT3 experience, with the added pleasure of open-air driving. No turbos, no boring automatic transmission, just a pure, engaging sports car the way Porsche knows how to build them.

What Exactly Is The 911 GT3 S/C?

You can think of it as a greatest hits compilation from Porsche’s GT garage. The GT3 S/C (the “S/C” stands for Sport Cabriolet) takes the high-revving 4.0-liter flat-six from the 911 GT3, pairs it with the carbon-fiber lightweight body components from the ultra-rare 911 S/T, and drops the whole thing into a two-seat convertible body with a full power-operated soft top. The result is a car that’s unlike anything else in Porsche’s current lineup.

And unlike the 911 Speedster that inspired it, the 911 GT3 S/C isn’t a limited-run special. It’s a regular production model, meaning your chances of actually getting one are a whole lot better, if you’ve got the $273,000 asking price sitting around.. and enough juice with your dealership.

“The new 911 GT3 S/C responds to our customers’ desire for sports cars that are particularly fun to drive. The exciting powertrain of the 911 GT3 comes into its own even more when driving without a roof, especially on winding country roads. Above all, because we have managed to keep the weight of the 911 GT3 S/C particularly low at 3,322 lbs. despite the fully automatic top,” said Frank Moser, Vice President 911 and 718 model line.

That weight figure is really impressive, given how much engineering went into this car.

It’s Manual-Only, And That’s the Whole Point

Let’s be absolutely clear: there is no PDK option here. No dual-clutch. No paddles. The GT3 S/C comes exclusively with Porsche’s six-speed GT Sport manual transmission, the same short-ratio, lightweight unit found in the current GT3 and the S/T. Porsche isn’t apologizing for it either. This car exists specifically for drivers who want to row their own gears while the wind tears through their hair.

With 502 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque on tap from that screaming naturally aspirated flat-six (with the redline sitting at a glorious 9,000 rpm), the GT3 S/C gets to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and tops out at 194 mph. Those are serious numbers for a car with no forced induction and no roof.

Carbon Fiber Everywhere To Reduce Weight

Porsche went to battle against every unnecessary pound. The hood, fenders, and doors are all Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP), pulled straight from the S/T parts bin. The center-locking wheels (20-inch up front, 21-inch out back) are magnesium, saving nearly 19 pounds of unsprung weight compared to aluminum alternatives. Even the convertible top frame uses magnesium panels to keep bulk down.

Standard equipment includes Porsche’s Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system, which sheds over 44 pounds compared to conventional cast iron rotors. This isn’t just a convertible GT3, it’s a lightweight weapon wearing a very pretty hat.

The Convertible Top Is Smarter Than You Think

One of the engineering highlights here is how Porsche handled the roof. Because the GT3 S/C doesn’t use the double-bubble rear cover of the Speedster, engineers were able to fit the same power-operated soft top used on standard 911 Cabriolet models – upgraded with magnesium panels for that coupe-like roofline. It opens or closes in just 12 seconds, and the whole system flows in a clean, uninterrupted arc from the windshield to the rear that maintains that iconic 911 silhouette.

There’s also an electrically operated wind deflector that deploys in just two seconds at the push of a button, making open-top cruising comfortable well beyond city speeds.

Driving Pleasure On A New Level

The GT3 S/C shares its chassis setup with the 911 GT3 Touring Package, which means double wishbone front axle geometry – a first for any open-top 911. Combined with 255/35 ZR20 front and 315/30 ZR21 rear tires, this car is set up to carve corners with precision.

“We learned with the 911 Speedster and 718 Spyder RS how well our high-revving naturally aspirated engine—particularly dynamic handling characteristics and consistent lightweight construction—fit a driver’s car without a roof,” says Andreas Preuninger, Director GT Cars. “The arrival of the 911 GT3 S/C marks the first time an open top 911 uses a double wishbone front axle. In combination with the particularly high-grip sports tires and the low weight, the car offers driving pleasure on winding roads that has hardly been experienced with an open-top car before.”

That’s a bold claim.. but given what Porsche has stuffed into this package, it’s hard to argue.

Optional Street Style Package Lets You Make It Your Own

For buyers who want to go a step further with personalization, Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur is offering an optional Street Style Package. It’s a curated visual and tactile experience that includes Pyro Red exterior graphics, Slate Grey Neo painted wheels, Victory Gold brake calipers, and braided four-color leather in the interior combining Slate Grey, Guards Red, Magnesium Grey and Kalahari.

The standout piece for me? A dark gear lever topped with an open-pore walnut shift knob – one of the coolest interior details Porsche has offered in years.
