2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid

We’ve got our first official look at the all-new 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most significant refreshes the compact SUV has seen in years. As you will see, this isn’t just a facelift, it’s a ground-up rethink of one of Nissan’s most important vehicles, complete with a hybrid powertrain that works unlike anything else on the market.

A Bold New Look That Actually Takes Some Risks

Let’s start with the styling, because that’s what really caught my attention. Nissan has clearly decided to stop playing it safe. The 2027 Rogue features an entirely new front and rear end, with headlights that integrate directly into the grille in a way that feels genuinely edgy and modern. Out back, a gridlike taillight design connects with a design element on the D-pillar. It’s a coherent, thoughtful design language that says Nissan is paying attention to the details.

As someone who appreciates when an automaker actually takes a design risk, the new Rogue has a presence that should appeal to younger buyers who want something that looks as sharp in a parking lot as it does on a trail. This isn’t your dad’s Rogue, it feels like Nissan is going after a style-conscious crowd who doesn’t want to sacrifice utility for good looks.

e-POWER Hybrid System Is Unlike Any Hybrid You Know

Here’s where things get really interesting. The 2027 Rogue will use Nissan’s e-POWER series-hybrid setup, and it works differently from a traditional hybrid like what you’d find in a Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V.

In most hybrids, both the gasoline engine and electric motors can directly power the wheels. In the Rogue’s e-POWER setup, only the electric motors drive the wheels. The gasoline engine acts purely as a generator, charging the battery pack that feeds those motors. The result is an EV-like driving feel: smooth, immediate, responsive, without the need for a plug or a charging station.

Nissan has sold almost 2 million vehicles with e‑POWER since 2016, making it a globally tried-and-tested technology. The 2027 Rogue will be its first application in the U.S. market, which is a big deal. To see a video of how hybrid e‑POWER works, click here.

“Rogue has long been at the heart of Nissan’s success in the U.S. and Canada, and the next generation represents a major step forward for this incredibly important model,” said Ponz Pandikuthira, senior vice president, Chief Product & Planning Officer, Nissan Americas. “With hybrid e‑POWER, the all-new Rogue will bring the smooth, responsive feel of electric motor driving to one of the most popular compact SUVs in North America, while staying true to what customers value most – efficiency, confidence and everyday usability.”

That “smooth, responsive feel” is the key phrase here. This sounds to be the closest you’ll get to driving an EV without actually owning one.. or dealing with range anxiety.

Dual Electric Motors Mean Standard AWD

The 2027 Rogue Hybrid will come equipped with two electric motors, one powering the front axle, one powering the rear, delivering true all-wheel drive as part of the e-POWER system. That’s a meaningful upgrade for anyone who deals with snow, rain, or just wants the extra confidence of AWD on a daily basis.

Detailed specs haven’t been released yet, including which gasoline engine will serve as the onboard generator, but Nissan has confirmed that the U.S.-bound setup will be more powerful than the European version already on the road.

How It Stacks Up Against The CR-V And RAV4

The compact hybrid SUV segment is fierce right now. The Toyota RAV4 is now available only as a hybrid, and the Honda CR-V Hybrid is one of the best-selling vehicles in the country. Nissan knows it needs a real contender in this space, and the 2027 Rogue Hybrid is clearly built to be just that.

The Rogue has already proven its staying power, as the Rogue/X-Trail family has sold nearly 10 million units globally since 2000, including close to 4 million in the U.S. alone. That’s a serious foundation to build on, and pairing it with an EV-like driving experience could be exactly what pulls buyers away from the Toyota and Honda juggernauts.

What’s The Launch Plan?

According to reports, the 2027 Rogue will launch as a hybrid-only model, while the current gas-only version stays in production as a transitional option. A non-hybrid version of the new Rogue is planned for later, but no timeline has been confirmed. Nissan is betting that hybrid will dominate sales, just as it does for the CR-V, so don’t be surprised if the gas-only version quietly fades out over time.

The current 2026 Rogue “Hybrid” is actually a rebadged Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, which was a stopgap measure that was never meant to be permanent. The 2027 model is the real deal, built from the ground up as a Nissan.

Expect full specs, more exterior and interior photos, and pricing details closer to the launch date, which is expected by the end of 2026.

Bottom Line

The 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid is shaping up to be a genuinely compelling option in a segment that badly needed some fresh competition. The e-POWER system is a smart, differentiated approach to hybrid tech, the new styling is confident and eye-catching, and the dual-motor AWD setup checks a major box for practicality.
