Toyota just pulled the wraps off the all-new 2026 Toyota RAV4, and it’s a game-changer. For over two decades, the RAV4 (Recreational Active Vehicle with 4-wheel drive) has been the go-to compact SUV for guys who want versatility, reliability, and performance.

Now, the sixth-generation model is upping the ante with aggressive new styling, serious power upgrades, and cutting-edge technology, all wrapped in Toyota’s commitment to electrification. Whether you’re heading off the grid or just cruising downtown, this new RAV4 is built to fit every kind of lifestyle.

Three Distinct Styles, Tailored for Every Kind of Driver

For its sixth generation, America’s best-selling compact SUV will be available in three new designs that include Core, Rugged, and Sport styles.

The Core models (LE, XLE, and Limited) bring a clean, contemporary look with a sleek paint-matched grille and Toyota’s signature hammerhead front end. Subtle details like those wide overfenders, sculpted body panels, and wheel sizes up to 20 inches give these trims a refined-yet-tough profile that works just as well at a downtown bar as it does on a weekend escape.

Outdoor enthusiasts will gravitate toward the Rugged Woodland Edition, which now becomes a standalone trim. It’s built for adventure with AWD standard, higher ground clearance, standard all-terrain tires, and raised roof rails with crossbars. It even includes an integrated Rigid Industries LED light bar, split grille, and a rear activity mount — because Toyota knows you’re bringing the bikes, boards, or whatever else the trail demands.

And for those with a need for speed and sharp aesthetics, Toyota introduces its first-ever RAV4 GR SPORT in the U.S. Designed in collaboration with the motorsport pros at TOYOTA GAZOO Racing, the GR SPORT is all about performance. It comes exclusively with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain and boasts a GR-tuned suspension, aggressive styling, and summer tires on 20-inch wheels.

“With three distinct styles, two highly efficient electrified powertrains, and available Front- or All-Wheel Drive, the all-new RAV4 offers something for everyone and is ready to take on all of life’s adventures,” said David Christ, Toyota Division’s group vice president and GM.

100% Electrified Powertrain: Pick Your Plug

Toyota is going all-in on electrification with the new RAV4. There will be no traditional gas-only models — instead, you’ll choose between a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) or a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). The move not only future-proofs your ride but also gives you performance and efficiency in one sleek package.

The fifth-gen hybrid system now delivers up to 236 horsepower with AWD, while FWD hybrid models (available for the first time) pack 226 hp, offering a significant jump from the 203 hp in the old gas-only FWD models.

The new PHEV system is where things get seriously exciting. It features a 2.5L engine, two electric motors, and a high-capacity traction battery, combining for up to a whopping 320 hp, which is 18 more horses than before. Range is also improved with a manufacturer-estimated 50 miles of all-electric driving, up from 42 miles.

Four PHEV trims will be offered: SE, XSE, Woodland, and GR SPORT. All will come with AWD standard, and DC fast charging will be available on the XSE and Woodland trims.

Built to Haul: Towing Capacity That Delivers

Just because it’s electrified doesn’t mean the 2026 RAV4 forgot how to work. The HEV XLE, Woodland, SE, XSE, Limited and PHEV SE, XSE, and Woodland grades with AWD, will be capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds. Even the base AWD and all FWD models will manage a respectable 1,750 pounds, making this one of the most capable compact SUVs in its class.

A High-Tech Cabin Built for Modern Drivers

Inside, the RAV4 gets a full tech overhaul. The cabin is more organized, functional, and driver-focused than ever. On select trims, a shift-by-wire system brings a modern, minimalist gear selector that adds to the cockpit’s futuristic feel.

A new, slim 10.5-inch or available 12.9-inch touchscreen gives the cockpit a clean, modern feel. Digital HVAC controls are a new feature integrated into the bottom of the touchscreen display and have a permanent home along the bottom of the screen. Across all grades, a new, standard 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster will give drivers customizable options and integrated multimedia information. A six-speaker audio system will be standard, and a nine speaker JBL Premium Audio system will be available, depending on the grade.

The 2026 RAV4 will also launch the newest version of the Toyota Audio Multimedia system, which is enabled by Arene. The system will have standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and simultaneous dual Bluetooth phone connectivity. The new system changes-up the user experience with a new home button that is always displayed regardless of whether it’s being operated in the native system, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The native Voice Assistant is also improved with quicker response times. Native map and navigation functionality will also be integrated into the digital gauge cluster.

The Toyota RAV4 will also be the first Toyota model to receive the Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 (TSS 4.0) system, which offers enhanced radar, improved sensors, and smarter detection of pedestrians, cyclists, and more.

Interior Vibes: Comfort Meets Capability

Toyota nailed the balance of rugged and refined. Depending on the trim, seating ranges from classic fabric to high-end SofTex or perforated microsuede. The Woodland trim brings red-orange accents, all-weather mats, and soft-touch panels, while the GR SPORT model cranks up the excitement with aluminum sport pedals, paddle shifters, and GR-branded headrests.

Color options also got a refresh. The Woodland gets an exclusive new paint color called Urban Rock, while other bold newcomers like Meteor Shower, Everest, and Storm Cloud join the palette. Two-tone roof options are back, including an eye-catching Supersonic Red with Black roof combo exclusive to the GR SPORT.
