Wawa’s Hoagiefest Is Back For 2026, But Is It Actually A Deal Anymore?

Wawa Hoagiefest meal deal

Every summer, Wawa fanatics across the East Coast look forward to one thing above all else: Hoagiefest. Started in 2008, Hoagiefest is exactly what it sounds like, a celebration of the all-mighty hoagie. And Wawa celebrates it by offering up their delicious hoagies (and more) at a discounted price that made stopping at Wawa a no-brainer.

This year’s 2026 Wawa Hoagiefest campaign runs from June 22 through July 26 in all 1,200+ Wawa stores, and Wawa’s marketing team is calling it bigger and better than ever.

But if you’ve been following this promotion for a few years, you may want to pump the brakes before you get too excited, because the deal itself has quietly changed in a way that a lot of fans aren’t happy about.

What Hoagiefest Used To Be, And Why People Loved It

Let’s start with a little history. For years, Hoagiefest was refreshingly simple: show up, order your hoagie, pay a discounted price, leave happy. In 2024, customers could purchase Wawa’s Shorti and Classic hoagies for $5 and $6, respectively. No strings attached, no bundle required. You want just the Classic hoagie? Here it is, six bucks. Done. That was the deal, and it was a genuinely good one – a full-size, made-to-order hoagie at a price that made sense.

In 2025, Wawa expanded things further by celebrating a “Summer of Sandwiches” with $6 and under Hoagies, Clubs, Wraps, Quesadillas, and Chicken Sandwiches – still individually priced, still your choice of what to grab. If you wanted the hoagie alone, you got the hoagie alone at a great price. It was the promotion at its most generous.

Here’s What Changed In 2026

2026 Wawa Hoagiefest $6 Shorti Meal Deal

This year, Wawa has restructured Hoagiefest around a mandatory meal deal format, and that’s where the complaints are starting to pile up. This year, Wawa stores are celebrating Hoagiefest with two meal deal options: any Shorti Hoagie, Wrap or Chicken Sandwich with a small bag of Herr’s chips, and a small fountain drink for just $6, or any Classic Hoagie, small bag of Herr’s chips, and a small fountain drink for just $8.

Honestly, this kind of sucks, as you can no longer just grab a Classic hoagie for $6. That option is gone. Instead, you’re paying $8, but only if you also take the chips and the fountain drink. If you just want the sandwich and nothing else (like I always did), you’re basically paying full price and taking some items you didn’t want or ask for.

Let’s Do The Math

Wawa’s CMO Doug Martin framed this as a major win for customers: “We’re thrilled to carry on Wawa’s tradition of Hoagiefest in a new way this summer by offering 2 highly-customizable meal deal options to enjoy in all of our stores. Wawa Hoagies are summer staple for many, and we can’t wait to provide our customers with even more new and exciting options!”

Now with respect to the marketing spin, let’s look at what’s actually happening here. A Classic hoagie at Wawa’s regular price runs roughly $8.49 to $8.99 depending on what you build. The Hoagiefest “deal” brings it to $8, but only if you bundle it with chips and a fountain drink you may not want. Strip those out and you’re looking at savings of somewhere around $0.50 on the sandwich itself. That’s not Hoagiefest. That’s a Tuesday.

Compare that to 2024, when a Classic hoagie cost $6 outright, a savings of $2.50 to $3, and it becomes pretty clear that what’s being marketed as a “deal” is anything but.

Fans Are NOT Happy About It

2026 Wawa Hoagiefest $8 Classic Meal Deal

Wawa faithfuls have been particularly vocal about their disappointment with the deal, leaving numerous comments on social media like:

Hoagiefest is only a meal deal??? That’s a terrible promotion for those who don’t drink soda or eat potato chips!!! Wawa is really going downhill!
Way to ruin hoagiefest by making it a meal deal! Terrible idea!
Gone from $5 to $8 in just a couple years. Won’t be getting any hoagies this summer, sorry but your sandwich isn’t worth $8 and I don’t want the chips or soda.
Not happy its for a combo meal only.😭😭

The core frustration is simple: Hoagiefest wasn’t broken. It was one of the few remaining food promotions that kept things straightforward and genuinely customer-friendly. Bundling it into a forced combo might look good in a press release, but many customers don’t want the chips and soda, or they already have that at home and don’t need the combo.

The Bottom Line

Hoagiefest 2026 is here, and if you were already planning on getting a fountain drink and chips with your order, then it’s a good deal for sure. But if you’re one of the many loyal fans who just wanted the $6 Classic sandwich that made this promotion great, this year’s Hoagiefest is going to feel like a step backward dressed up in retro decorations and branded chip bags.

The promotion runs through July 26, so you’ve got time to decide whether the deal works for your order. Just don’t let the Hoagiefest branding convince you this is the same deal it used to be. Do the math yourself, and order accordingly.
