The Mandalorian and Grogu Trailer Is Here, And It Looks So Good!

on

After a teaser in September 2025, a frustrating 30-second Super Bowl spot, and what felt like an eternity of waiting, the full official trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu finally dropped, and it does not disappoint. Mando and Baby Yoda are heading to the big screen on May 22, 2026, and if this trailer is any indication, it’s going to be one hell of a ride.

The Clan of Two Is Back, Bigger Than Ever

The story picks up after the events of the Disney+ series, with the Galactic Empire fallen but far from gone. Scattered Imperial warlords are threatening the fragile New Republic, and Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal, unmasked at one point in the trailer) and his young apprentice Grogu have been enlisted to help stop them. The stakes feel bigger than anything from the show, and for the first time in seven years, Star Wars is back in theaters.

Director Jon Favreau and co-writer Dave Filoni, the guys who made The Mandalorian what it is, are back at the helm, and the trailer has their fingerprints all over it: a sense of adventure, genuine heart between Mando and Grogu, and a whole lot of cool alien creatures.

The Cast Is Absolutely Stacked

We already knew Pedro Pascal was back under the helmet (and apparently out of it, too), but the supporting cast for this thing is wild:

Sigourney Weaver makes her Star Wars debut as Colonel Ward, a veteran of the Rebel Alliance who now leads the New Republic’s Adelphi Rangers. She looks like she was born in this galaxy. Jeremy Allen White voices Rotta the Hutt (Jabba’s son), and the trailer teases Mando getting tangled up with the Hutt underworld in a big way, including a gladiator-style arena fight. Martin Scorsese voices an Ardennian fry cook, which is simultaneously the most bizarre and most fun casting news in recent memory. The man has spent years dunking on superhero movies, and now he’s a bug-armed alien in Star Wars. Love it.

On the familiar faces front, Zeb Orrelios from Star Wars Rebels is stepping into a bigger role as a New Republic pilot, and Jonny Coyne is back as the Imperial warlord from Season 3. Even Dave Filoni gets a cameo as Trapper Wolf.

What the Trailer Shows Us

The trailer (shown above) is packed with action and easter eggs. We get Mando bringing down an AT-AT on what looks like a snowy planet (possibly Hoth, which would be an awesome ironic twist – Imperials hiding out at the old Rebel base). Grogu is meditating on what fans think might be Dagobah, showing off some serious Force growth. There’s an arena fight featuring monsters that eagle-eyed fans will recognize from the Dejarik holochess board in A New Hope, now brought to terrifying life. And in a fun moment, Grogu picks up what can only be described as a Frieza-style pod and Mando burns rubber with his jetpacks. These two are just having fun, and it’s infectious.

One of the most talked-about moments is the unmasking of Din Djarin – seeing Pedro Pascal’s actual face in the Star Wars universe is a big deal, and the trailer plays it like the moment it is.

Star Wars Is Back in Theaters

This is the first Star Wars theatrical release since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, and Lucasfilm is clearly treating it as a launchpad for a whole new era. If audiences show up, and the early buzz suggests they will, this could be the beginning of a new trilogy built around these characters.

The Mandalorian universe has always been the healthiest corner of modern Star Wars and taking it to the big screen feels like the right move. The trailer strikes the perfect balance between fan service and genuine storytelling, and with Ludwig Göransson back composing the score, it’s going to sound incredible too.

Block off May 22, 2026 on your calendar. The Mandalorian and Grogu looks like the Star Wars movie we’ve been waiting for, and if this trailer is any indication, it might just remind the world why we fell in love with this galaxy in the first place.
