Travis Pastrana Goes Down Under For Final Gymkhana Film – Aussie Shred

The wait is over. Travis Pastrana just dropped the most insane Gymkhana film yet, and it’s set in the one place that truly understands what it means to hoon, Australia. Gymkhana 2025: Aussie Shred premiered this morning, and if you haven’t watched it yet, buckle up!

This isn’t just another car video, it’s easily the wildest installment in the franchise’s history, featuring jaw-dropping stunts that push the boundaries of what’s possible behind the wheel.

The Beast: Meet the Subaru “Brataroo” 9500 Turbo

At the heart of this automotive mayhem is the all-new Subaru “Brataroo” 9500 Turbo, a 670HP monster that reimagines the classic 1978 Subaru BRAT as a purpose-built Gymkhana weapon. While this might look like your grandfather’s pickup truck, Subaru of America and Vermont SportsCar engineered this machine from the ground up with active aerodynamics that would make Formula 1 engineers jealous.

Under the hood sits a fire-breathing, turbocharged 2.0-liter boxer engine that screams to more than 9,500 RPM while pumping out a whopping 670 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque. The result? A rallycross-derived beast that can corner, slide, and fly like nothing before it.

Travis Pastrana didn’t hold back when describing his new ride: “The Brataroo is hands down the craziest Gymkhana car we’ve ever built. Every part of this car was designed to take the abuse we threw at it while making this film. From hanging two tires off a pier to flying 160 feet across a 10-story deep canyon gap over a road train. Skimming across a deep lake and scaring myself every step of the way.”

Epic Locations Across the Land Down Under

What makes “Aussie Shred” stand out isn’t just the car, it’s where Pastrana takes it. The film showcases Australia’s diverse landscape, from the iconic Sydney Harbour to the legendary Mount Panorama at Bathurst, one of the most challenging racetracks in the world. The red sands of the Outback provide a stunning backdrop for some of the biggest jumps ever captured in a Gymkhana film.

That 160-foot canyon gap jump that Pastrana mentioned? Yeah, it’s over a road train (those massive Australian trucks) and the drop below is 10 stories deep. There are also sequences where the Brataroo literally skims across water and hangs two wheels off a pier over the harbor. These aren’t CGI tricks; this is real automotive madness caught on camera.

Star-Studded Lineup of Australian Motorsport Legends

True to Gymkhana tradition, “Aussie Shred” features an impressive roster of cameos from Australian motorsport icons. Dakar Rally champion Toby Price makes an appearance, along with Subaru WRC driver Chris “Atko” Atkinson. The Nitro Circus crew brings the BMX energy with riders Ryan Williams, Jaie Toohey, and Will Brown showing up to witness the chaos.

One of the film’s standout moments features a field of V8 Supercars drivers challenging the Brataroo to a rolling drag race down Mount Panorama’s famous Conrod Straight, one of the longest and fastest straights in motorsport. Plus, car culture fans will spot Moog and Marty from Mighty Car Mods, the last of the V8 Interceptors, and the Mad Hueys performing that most sacred of Australian traditions: the shoey.

A Decade in the Making

Getting permission to film a Gymkhana movie in Australia wasn’t easy. Director Brian Scotto, who co-founded Hoonigan with the late Ken Block, explained the long journey to making this film happen:

“Australia had long been at the top of the list of potential Gymkhana Film locations. Ken Block and I attempted to shoot Gymkhana Nine there, but were met with a resounding no, because of the climate of anti-hoon laws at the time. A decade later when we reapproached the Australian government, we were met with open arms. This combination of the unfinished business we had down under and this being Pastrana’s last film in the series, not only makes it very special to me, but also put the pressure on to push the limit of what we could do both in the car and behind the camera.”

Honoring Ken Block’s Legacy

“Aussie Shred” pays tribute to Ken Block, whose original “Gymkhana Practice” transformed automotive content forever. Block’s vision turned sideways driving and precision car control into a global phenomenon, inspiring millions and changing how we consume car content online. This film continues that legacy while pushing the envelope even further with modern technology and Pastrana’s fearless approach to stunts.

Where to Watch

“Gymkhana 2025: Aussie Shred” is now live and you can watch it above (or on the Hoonigan YouTube channel if you prefer to stream it on your TV). If you’re into cars, drifting, massive jumps, or just watching someone absolutely send it with zero regard for physics, this is mandatory viewing. Clear your schedule for the next 10 minutes and prepare to have your mind blown.

This is what happens when you give a rally legend a 670-horsepower purpose-built machine and turn him loose in a country that was born to hoon!
