No Joke: Famous Comedians Might Have The Same Car You Do!

Jay Leno With His Mercedes SLR

Comedians like Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno basically own entire car lots of some of the most expensive cars in the world. One of Seinfeld’s most prized possessions is his Porsche 959, which cost him a cool $700,000. On the other hand, Leno favors his Mercedes SLR McLaren, which set him back about a half a million bucks.

With other popular comedians and celebrities, however, having an expensive car or two is not as much of a priority. Chances are some of your favorite funny people drive a car that you can actually afford (and maybe even own). So buckle up as we take a look at some of the most popular “regular” cars driven by the people who make us laugh.

Comedians Go Green

Probably the most popular regular car among A-List comedians is the Toyota Prius. 2013 Prius models run from about $24,000 to $35,000 MSRP at car dealers in Las Vegas and Southern California, but it’s no surprise that a long list of celebrities own this car. After all, many of your leading Hollywood stars are on a mission to save the earth, and what better way to show their concern than by getting an eco-friendly car?

Larry David is one such comedian whose Prius is a stark contrast to his Seinfeld co-creator’s Porsche. And while Ron Burgundy promotes the Dodge Durango, he (Will Ferrell) actually drives a Prius. Owen Wilson is another actor with a long list of comic hits who chose the Prius. It’s clear that the Prius, with its excellent fuel economy (around 50 mpg), and low emissions appeals to the wealthy who are also environmentally conscious.

They’ve Driven a Ford Lately

B.J. Novak, who played Ryan on “The Office” and also wrote 15 episodes of the highly acclaimed comedy series, often cruises around in his Ford Mustang GT Convertible. Although not quite as cheap as the 2013 Prius, the newest GT Convertible still has a reasonable starting price of $35,900. That’s not a lot of cash considering it has a 5.0 liter V8 engine with 420 horsepower and is also good looking inside and out.

It turns out other celebrities like Ford’s too. Funny girl Anna Faris of “Scary Movie” and “House Bunny” fame drives a Ford Edge, a crossover vehicle that runs anywhere from $28,000 to $40,000. But that isn’t as surprising as the much older Fords that other comedians own. Jeremy Piven, who has acted in various comedic roles, including an episode of Seinfeld, drives a 1977 Ford Bronco, while late show host Conan O’Brien drives a 1992 Ford Taurus SHO.

Mini Cooper, Not So Mini Paychecks

Another late-night host drives a fairly cheap car, as well. SNL alum Jimmy Fallon has been spotted driving a Mini Cooper, which runs a mere $20-$40K MSRP. Will Smith enjoyed driving a Mini on the set of the 2005 comedy “Hitch” so much that he went out and bought one for himself. Of course, the Mini Cooper is known as the “car built for everyone,” so maybe we shouldn’t be too surprised that celebrities often prefer them to more expensive rides.

So there you go. You might not be making the same amount of money as your favorite A-list celebrities, but you might just be driving the same car as them!
