Tim Kuniskis Revives SRT, Ushering In A New Era of Performance
In a move that’s guaranteed to set car guys’ hearts racing, Stellantis just dropped a bombshell announcement. Not only is Tim Kuniskis stepping into a powerful new leadership role, but the legendary SRT (Street and Racing Technology) division is officially back from the dead. This is more than just a corporate reshuffling, it’s a high-octane statement of intent.
Kuniskis Takes the Reins Across Stellantis’ U.S. Brands
Tim Kuniskis, best known as the performance whisperer behind modern-day muscle machines like the Dodge Challenger Hellcat and Ram TRX, has been appointed to a newly created role: Head of American Brands and North America Marketing and Retail Strategy. He will report directly to Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa, overseeing everything from product strategy to dealer network engagement.
And yes, he’s still CEO of Ram, a brand that’s been gaining serious traction under his guidance.
“Connecting with our customers, delivering the products and experiences they want, is critical to reaching our full potential. Tim has proven time and time again that he is masterful at building brands that reach the heart and soul of the customer. We will leverage his energy, his strategic mindset & his competitive spirit to supercharge all our brand activities,” said Filosa.
Translation: Stellantis is handing Kuniskis the keys and trusting him to redline the whole damn fleet.
The Return of SRT: A Legend Reborn
The big headline? SRT is back. Yes, the very same Street and Racing Technology division that brought us icons like the Viper, Hellcat, and Demon is being revived under Kuniskis’ watch. After being quietly sunset in 2021 during Stellantis’ global restructuring, it looked like the high-performance future was going all-electric with no place for old-school muscle. Clearly, that’s no longer the case.
“We’re getting the band back together,” Kuniskis said. “SRT is another box we needed to check as we head into a product launch cadence enabling more performance than we’ve ever seen before. We’re working with our product development and technology organization to select the best engineers in powertrain and vehicle dynamics to build a team worthy of the SRT name.”
From the Viper to the EV Era – SRT’s Next Chapter
SRT started as a skunkworks team that helped birth the original Dodge Viper back in 1989. Over the years, it evolved into an elite engineering squad responsible for some of the wildest production cars ever to hit American roads. The 707-horsepower Hellcats, the track-dominating Demons, the widebody challengers, they all bore the SRT badge.
With Kuniskis now back in the driver’s seat and SRT reloaded, the message is clear: Stellantis wants to dominate performance again, on both street and track.
While the exact roadmap for SRT 2.0 isn’t spelled out just yet, insiders suggest we could be looking at a new generation of performance vehicles that combine raw American power with cutting-edge tech. Whether it’s Hemi-powered beasts, plug-in hybrids, or even EVs with a soul, expect big things.
A Glimmer of Hope for Muscle Fans
When Kuniskis retired last summer, many assumed it was the end of an era. But his return late last year to head up Ram marked the start of something new, and potentially far more exciting.
Given his proven track record of blending nostalgia with innovation, it’s pretty safe to say we are heading into a new golden age for fans of American performance.
So whether you are a burnout aficionado, a drag strip regular, or just a guy who appreciates what a properly tuned V8 can do, it’s time to get hyped. Because SRT is back, baby! And with Kuniskis at the helm, the future is looking fast, loud, and dangerously fun.
