4 Things You Shouldn’t Do While Driving

Published

on

OK, so you’ve been driving for a few years now. You’re used to the roads, and you feel like you could navigate the highway with your eyes closed. While it’s good to relax a little bit with your driving, relax too much and you could get yourself into trouble. We all know the obvious rules about making sure you wear your seat belt and not drinking and driving. Drunk driving could land you in some serious trouble. You could end up having to have an ignition interlock device or worse, you could have your license suspended, or even get a prison sentence. However, these worse punishments could still happen if you commit an ignition interlock device violation. There are some other, less obvious things that you do while driving and there are some people out there who take doing-stupid-stuff-in-cars to a new level, however, and there are a whole host of mistakes that you could be making that risk your life on the roads.

If you’re guilty of any of these 4 things (come on, we know you are) then you should definitely rethink your driving habits. Ahem.

1. Texting

OK, whether you are texting, Instagramming, Snapchatting, or looking at pictures of your dog that your girlfriend sent you, you need to cut this out. While you may think that you’re good at multitasking, the truth is that one overly-cute picture of your dog could lead you to lose your concentration and veer into another lane of traffic, putting you and other drivers at risk, So do everyone a favor and wait until you reach your destination before picking up your phone.

2. Getting Dressed

We don’t really know how many people are guilty of this one, but taking your sweater off over your head while you’re driving is insanely stupid and dangerous. However, a lot of people do this, apparently, and it could distract you from an emergency situation. If this is your thing, then familiarize yourself with the car accident lawyers at The Champion Firm, P.C. You may need them when this doesn’t turn out well for you.

3. Eating

OK, we all get hungry when we’re behind the wheel, and eating is hardly breaking the law (in most places, anyway). However, cracking out a banquet when you’re going 65 on the highway is not a good idea. So if you’re eating behind the wheel, get a passenger to unwrap your food for you. If you’re driving solo, and it’s going to be hard for you to eat, maybe pull over. Some people can deal with this, though, and we salute you.

4. Grabbing Something From The Back Seat

So maybe you’re hungry, and you swear that you have a candy bar in your jacket. But where is it? Then you remember that you put it in the back of the car, and you try to lean over while driving so that you can reach it. Well well well. You’ve lost a point if you do this one, and if you need to react quickly, it’s going to be hard for you to do so with half of your body in the back of the car. Stop it please.

If you found yourself nodding your head while reading this list of driving no-no’s, you should probably rethink your driving habits. You could be putting yourself and others at risk if you do any of these things, and it really isn’t worth it just so that you can eat a candy bar, you know?
