Top 5 Song Covers You Might Have Missed

The other night, my roommates and I were enjoying a few beverages talking about song covers. We searched throughout the internet for the usual popular ones like Hallelujah by Jeff Beck and All Along the Watchtower by Hendrix. Don’t forget Cake’s cover of I Will Survive. Those are ones that just struck out to us immediately. We decided to dig a little deeper and began listening to covers of popular music, and I’ve compiled a list of 5 covers that deserve to be on your iPod. Hell some of them are better than the original. So let’s get started with number 5.

5. The Lumineers – Subterranean Home Sick Blues (originally by Bob Dylan)

Now this one popped into my head immediately because I just saw The Lumineers live (awesome show), and this song stole the show.

4. Bruce Lash – Psycho Killer (originally by the Talking Heads)

Sometimes when you watch a movie, you hear a cover and you immediately have to find it on YouTube or iTunes and give it a listen. Bruce Lash’s Psycho Killer is still echoing in my head. This song is truly haunting, yet incredible. I have to thank Oliver Stone’s Savages for picking an incredible song.

3. Young the Giant – Ignition (Remix) (originally by R.Kelly)

This is an absolutely ridiculously awesome cover. Completely unique, and those fur coats definitely deserve a serious mention. What makes this great is that Young the Giant is a seriously good band who might have been goofing off, yet they still make great music.

2. The Civil Wars – Billie Jean (originally by Michael Jackson)

Okay, so this one and the Lumineers one might be a little biased. I’ve been non-stop listening to The Civil Wars, they’re great and you should definitely check them out, they just released a new album. Now I don’t consider myself a fan of Michael Jackson at all. I appreciate but don’t love his music. so this Billie Jean cover I think is more appealing than Michael’s. Also, I’m still waiting on that Slow Ride cover.

1. Hugo – 99 Problems (originally by Jay-Z)

Rap covers are a secret love of mine. Throw in a banjo, and we have one amazing cover that I love more than the original. This definitely deserves the #1 spot. The music video is a little disturbing, but the song is genius. Hope you guys enjoy.

If you have any covers that you think I should give a listen to please post them! I love hearing unique interpretations to popular songs.
