Must-Have Tools For Advanced Handymen

Published

on

A handyman without his tools is no handyman at all. If you’re calling yourself one, then your work area probably has all of the basic tools you might need, like hammers and screwdrivers. But where do you go from there, what other tools do you need to take your handyman skills to the next level? The answer really depends on what sort of work you want to take on, be it painting, plumbing, electrical, or something else entirely.

If you’re not sure where to start, here are some tools any advanced handyman should have:

1. Cordless Drill

The cordless drill is a very versatile piece of equipment and should be one of the first things you secure. Nor can you use this tool to drill holes, you can also use it to screw stuff in. It basically doubles as an electric screwdriver that can make the job of attaching things go much faster. It’s also a good idea to secure a cordless one so you wouldn’t have to be hampered by wiring.

2. Reciprocating Saw

Basically a saw with a small motor, a reciprocating saw is used to cut things quickly and efficiently. If you’re in the woodworking business, or if you’re doing a bit of demolition work, then this tool can make the job much easier and will help you finish faster. You can also adjust the speed of the saw depending on your needs. Some models you can even use to remove nails off the walls.

3. Miter Saw

If you expect to work with wood often, then getting a miter saw is a must. Miter saws are used for cross-cutting wood safely. The best miter saw for your work depends mostly on the type of wood you need to cut, and how you’re going to use them. Also, choosing between a cordless saw or a corded one is primarily down to your personal choice, but having the cordless saw adds extra mobility to your tools.

4. Rotary Tool

Another must-have tool if you find yourself doing a lot of precision woodworking, the rotary tool is a small device that can also be used to polish metal and engravings. Basically a sander with a battery attached to it, it can smooth out surfaces faster than you could just by your hands. They also come cordless, so you can practically take them anywhere.

5. Stud Finder

It can be a bit of a pain if you find yourself in need of attaching something on the wall, but couldn’t find a sturdy enough structure to anchor them. That’s where the stud finder comes in. A stud finder is a handheld device that you can use to locate framing studs on the walls. This means you wouldn’t need to do a lot of guesswork if you need to nail a picture on the wall or your flat screen TV.

Whatever tools you may decide to get, always remember that any tool is only as good as how you use them. There’s no point in getting a tool that you’ll only use once or twice and never think about ever again. The best tools any handyman could have are the ones they can use with any job, any time.
