If you are thinking about proposing to your partner at some point in the near future, then there are a lot of things that you will want to bear in mind along the way. Chances are, your main priority is going to be to try and ensure that your partner is happy with the proposal, that they are as likely as possible to say yes to it, and that the whole thing turns out well, without any embarrassing moments or faux pas.

To help ensure that, there are a few things you can do while you are planning the proposal. In this post, we’ll take a look at some of these in detail, so that you can ultimately plan the perfect proposal for your partner and for yourself. All of the following things are worth looking into if you haven’t already.

Speak With Their Family

It’s a really good idea to make sure that you are speaking with their family before you propose. There are a couple of reasons for this. First of all, you will find that it’s generally considered polite to inform your partner’s family that you are going to propose. Traditionally, this meant asking a woman’s father for her hand, although this might not be relevant – for instance, if you are proposing to a man – and it might be considered outdated as well. So you are going to want to think about this, but in most cases it’s a good idea to make sure that the family is at least aware of what is going on. You will then be able to celebrate more effectively afterwards, and your partner won’t have to go and tell everyone themselves, which can be daunting in itself!

Decide On A Budget

Although in an ideal world you might want to have a limitless amount of funds to spend on a proposal, in reality that is rarely the situation you find yourself in. Because of this, you are going to want to think about what you can do to get your budget right, and there are a few things you will want to consider here. Firstly, the ring, which is probably going to take up the balance of that budget. Then there is the venue, if you are going to have one, and any other costs for the day – such as going out to dinner or any transportation costs you might have. You need to make sure that you are going to have the money for all this, otherwise the day might not pan out as you would hope – and you do of course want it to be as special as possible.

Find A Ring

Finding the perfect ring is one of those things that you are going to want to think about as well, and it’s probably the part of the planning that will take you the longest. There are quite a few things that you need to bear in mind here. For instance, you’ll need to work out what her ring finger size is, and then you will need to shop around to find the perfect ring. This can be pretty tricky to get right, and it will require lots of trial and error, but you can at least make it more of a sure thing by ensuring that you choose a jewelry store that seems appropriate for the occasion. That way, the ring is much more likely to stand out.

Plan Your Speech

The term speech here may be grandiose, as you might simply want to ask the question, but it might be nice to say a little something first about why you are asking. The trick here is to make sure that you are planning it in advance, so that you know what you are going to say. So start writing your speech, but most importantly of all, practice it. You need to have it very clear in your head what you are going to say, so you can remember the words even if you get nervous – which you probably will! Preparation is the key to success here, so bear that in mind and you should be okay.

If you have got all that right, you are going to find that you are much more likely to get your yes, and more than that you will also be able to keep yourself happy in the process. You will probably find that the situation works out as it should and that your partner is happy too, which is of course the main thing here.
