Most quadcopters on the market sacrifice speed for agility, and since most people using these things are not experienced RC pilots, that makes perfect sense. But serious hobbyists like Warthox who have the need for speed are forced to go the DIY route instead.
Warthox’s latest creation is the Quadmovr, an unbelievably fast quad that takes a seriously skilled hand to fly. But what’s most surprising is how affordable it is. According to Warthox, the quad’s total cost was about $673, not including accessories like the charger, with most of the parts purchased from Flyduino.
It’s impossible to tell how high it goes or how fast it’s actually accelerating based on the video footage alone, but apparently his past flights of similar designs have reached speeds as high as 86mph! The props move so fast that they don’t even make the usual “buzz” noise that other drones do, but more of a high pitched UFO sound as it whizzes into the stratosphere.
Needless to say, I think I’ve just found a new hobby.. 🙂
