Lets be honest, the current generation Nissan Sentra is a bit of a snooze, with bland styling, average power, and that awful CVT transmission that Nissan insists on using, all so they can save an additional 1-2 MPG.

But Nissan might have redeemed redeem themselves with the 2017 Sentra SR Turbo, which was introduced today at the Miami International Auto Show. Nissan needed a boost of adrenaline to stay competitive with the other pocket rockets in this segment, and the SR Turbo might just be what the doctor ordered.

The 2017 Sentra SR Turbo takes the Sentra’s performance and fun-to-drive factor to a whole new level, with a new 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that puts out 188HP and 177 lb-ft of torque (64 more horsepower and 52 more lb-ft of torque versus the standard Sentra SR’s 1.8-liter powerplant). Furthermore, the Sentra SR Turbo is available with a proper 6-speed manual transmission (or unique CVT), and it includes revised suspension and steering, reinforced body and larger front disc brakes, along with sport exterior and interior treatments.

“The Sentra SR Turbo is designed for buyers who want all the attributes of traditional compact sedans but also desire some serious turbo performance,” said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. “The SR Turbo builds upon the redesigned Sentra and adds 50% more horsepower and more than 40% more torque, as well as the upgrades where drivers will feel them. It’s truly the complete package for compact car buyers and enthusiasts alike.”
