Are You A Bad Driver?

Published

on

We’ve all been in the car and experienced the result of bad driving. Whether it’s somebody tailgating or skipping lanes without indicating where they’re going, bad driving happens every single day. The bad drivers that you see on the road are mostly everyday people who are distracted, but they don’t often come with a streak of evil in them.

They make mistakes when they share public roads with others, so it can feel like a much bigger deal than it is. Have you ever worried that you are a bad driver? We all make mistakes from time to time and we may have allowed the occasional bad habit to creep in such as an improper lane change or tailgating somebody else occasionally, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you deserve to be called a bad driver. If you are worried about that, you need to ask yourself these following questions.

  • Are you thinking like a weekend driver? If you have to be somewhere at a specific time, and it’s a weekday, then you have to appreciate that everybody on the road is going to be rushing. Those who get behind the wheel during their peak hour on the way to work usually are pretty experienced at being tactical and strategic in their driving. Weekend drivers are a little bit more relaxed. They don’t drive the same way as somebody rushing to get to work. If you are on the road at 6:00 o’clock in the morning trying to get to work but you are driving like you’re on your way to the beach, you might not be a bad driver but you’re certainly a frustrating one.
  • Do you have road rage? Keeping calm in high traffic is not easy but it is very important. The way you conduct yourself on the road is going to make a big difference as to whether or not you are a safe driver. It’s fine to get annoyed if somebody’s antics on the road throw you off, but if you are flipping the bird at people and mouthing obscenities, you might have to consider whether you are a bad driver or not. Road rage can actually make you a terrible driver, because even if you try to back off and wait for a safe moment, the road rage can propel you to speed behind somebody.
  • Do you have road manners? Do you wave to people who let you pull out from the side street? Do you allow people to pull in front of you from another lane? Are you tailgating others because your car needs his own personal space? You really have to consider all of these things to know whether you are courteous as a driver. You might think that you don’t want to let anybody in because nobody lets you in, but that kind of defeatist thinking is not going to help you.

Make sure that you are keeping yourself in check while you are on the road. Doing this will help you to be a much better driver.
