The 2027 Dodge Charger Goes Purple For Its Diamond Anniversary
60 years is a LONG time to stay loud, but the Dodge Charger has never really known how to be quiet. To mark six decades since the Charger first hit the streets in 1966, Dodge is celebrating with a high-impact paint color called Purple Haze, and it’s sure to turn heads anywhere you go. This brand-new, limited-run exterior shade is exclusive to the 2027 Dodge Charger lineup.
A First For Dodge, A First For Charger
Here’s the thing, Purple Haze isn’t just new for the Charger, it’s a first-ever color for the entire Dodge brand. That’s a pretty big deal for a company that has never been shy about splashing wild colors across its muscle cars. The shade brings a high-gloss finish that plays tricks with the light: bright and shifting in direct sun, then settling into a deep, rich purple once it slides into the shade. It’s the kind of paint that looks like it’s got a personality of its own.
Dodge is leaning hard into nostalgia with this one, and for good reason. Back in 1969, Dodge rolled out its original “High Impact” color lineup — a set of loud, impossible-to-ignore paint options built to make sure nobody mistook a Dodge muscle car for anything else on the road. Names like Go Mango, Sublime, and Top Banana became cult classics in their own right, the kind of colors that still make Mopar diehards grin decades later.
Purple carved out its own piece of that legacy too, most famously with Plum Crazy in the early 1970s, followed more recently by shades like In-Violet and Hellraisin. Purple Haze picks up that torch with a modern twist for a new generation of Charger owners.
“We know Dodge muscle-car customers don’t just want to blend in, they want to stand out, just like Charger owners have since 1966,” said Matt McAlear, Dodge CEO. “Purple Haze is more than a color, it cranks up 60 years of Charger attitude, delivering a bold, factory-exclusive statement that’s every bit as formidable as the performance behind it.”
Available Across The Entire Lineup
Unlike a lot of special-edition colors that are limited to one trim or engine, Dodge is spreading the Purple Haze love across the whole 2027 Charger family. So whether you’re a V8-loyalist-turned-SIXPACK-believer or you’ve already gone electric, there’s a Purple Haze Charger with your name on it:
- Charger Scat Pack — 550-horsepower, twin-turbo SIXPACK power
- Charger R/T — 420 horsepower
- Charger Daytona — all-electric, up to 670 horsepower
That’s about as wide a net as Dodge could cast, and it means the anniversary color isn’t just reserved for one halo trim, everybody gets a shot at the purple.
Pricing And How to Get One
The new limited-run Purple Haze exterior color, available exclusively for the 2027 model year, is open for orders now for the entire Dodge Charger lineup, and it’s a $795 upcharge, which is super reasonable in my opinion.
Want to make it even more your own? Dodge is offering a handful of factory customization options to pair with the new color, including Fratzog dual stripes (a nod to the classic Dodge emblem), ten additional Mopar stripe and graphics packages, a Satin Black painted hood, or a Satin Black hood patch (on SIXPACK-powered models).
Why Color Matters So Much to Muscle Car Buyers
This isn’t just Dodge throwing a fun color at the wall to see if it sticks. According to Dodge’s own data, exterior color is nearly three times more important to full-size car buyers than it is to the auto industry as a whole, and on the Charger specifically, color ranks as a top-three purchase driver. In other words, muscle car people care about paint almost as much as they care about horsepower, and Dodge knows it.
I’ve always appreciated the fact that Dodge offered bold, exciting colors like this, and I wish other automakers would follow suit. Because life’s too short to drive a boring-colored car!
Where To See It First
If you want to see Purple Haze in person before committing to an order, mark your calendar. A 550-horsepower, SIXPACK-powered Charger Scat Pack finished in the new shade will make its public debut at the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals in Carlisle, PA, which runs from July 10–12.
It’s expected to be one of the more photographed cars on the show field, and honestly, it’s hard to blame anyone for stopping to stare.
The Bottom Line
Sixty years after the Charger first roared onto the scene, Dodge is proving it hasn’t lost its flair for the dramatic. Purple Haze taps into a decades-long tradition of loud, unapologetic muscle car colors while still feeling like something entirely new.
Whether you’re eyeing the gas-guzzling Scat Pack or the electric Daytona, this anniversary shade gives every 2027 Charger buyer a chance to own a little piece of Dodge history, in the most attention-grabbing way possible.
