Whiskey

Aging spirits is an interesting process, one that can be very rewarding when the time comes to finally taste the results. If you love your spirits but you have never taken the time to try aging them, it’s something that you will definitely want to try. Maybe you love cooking for others but also want to serve drinks that have the same time and care put into them. If so, it’s time to try aging spirits. And here are some of the ways of doing it.

Oak Chips for Aging Whiskey

The oak from the chips that you submerge in your whiskey help to infuse a woody and deep flavor into your whiskey. This technique is effective because having lots of small wood chips exposed to the spirit creates an expanded service area through which the flavor can develop. You can use other types of wood chips as well, so it’s certainly worth exploring the options.

Oak Infusion Spiral

If you want a relatively quick way of aging and infusing your alcohol, you might want to use a simple infusion spiral system. Again, these are made from oak and they sit inside the bottle. It can take a few weeks but after that, the drink will be aged and infused. It’s a spiral device and it’s very easy to use, even if you’ve never done anything like this before.

Wood Barrels

One of the most common and long-standing ways of aging spirits is to do it in a wood barrel, and you can find wood barrels for sale online very easily. It’s a much more accessible method of aging spirits than you might imagine. They have the added benefit of looking great in your home as you store your spirits in them. They’re usually made from oak and you can also get them inscribed if you want to.

Oak Bottles

If you don’t want a full-sized barrel in your home, the other option is to use oak bottles for infusing your spirits. When you do this, you simply store the drink in these bottles and let the flavors infuse. The type of oak or other kind of wood you use will dictate the impact it has on the lasting flavor of the drink. And these bottles can be used repeatedly as long as you care for them.

Elevie Badges

This one doesn’t apply to spirits, but if you’re looking to age a bottle of wine or simply make a cheap bottle taste a little more expensive, you might want to consider Elevie Badges. It’s a simple badge added to the glass of wine you’re drinking from. It immediately has an impact on flavor.

As you can see, there are plenty of ways of aging spirits and liquors, and doing it at home is actually not very difficult at all. Once you get the hang of it and understand the timing, you’ll have a great time experimenting with different aging techniques and getting the taste of your spirits just right. Cheers!
