If you want to ensure that your car goes as fast as possible, whether because you want to get into racing, or simply because you want your vehicle to be at the peak of its performance, there were a number of things you can do to help it pick up speed as you will see below…

Replace mechanical parts with electrical parts

If it is possible to replace mechanical parts with parts that run on electricity instead, then the horsepower of your car is sure to be improved. This is because mechanical car parts use the horsepower of the car to power themselves, which obviously means less power is available to make your car go fast, and there are lots of mechanical car parts like fuel pumps and engine fans, which can be replaced with electric equivalents, so if you’re serious about picking up speed, that is definitely something to look at.

Replace the spark plugs

One of the most obvious ways to improve the performance of your vehicle is to change the spark plugs. Why? Because a spark plug is a vital engine component that, as the name would suggest, provides the spark that caused the air-fuel mix in the engine to ignite. If your spark plugs are fault or of as low quality, then your vehicle is really not going to go anywhere fast, or in some cases, even at all. So, be sure to check them regularly and replace them when their condition has degraded and your vehicle will be better able to handle whatever you throw at it.

Upgrade your air intake

Car engines require air as well as fuel to function, so if you want your car to be as speedy as possible, it is never a bad idea to upgrade your car’s air intake.

Many people are not really aware of what their car’s air intake actually is Well, it’s that piece of long pipe with what looks like an accordion at one end. The accordion shapes things is actually the air filter, and it determines how much air your car can intake, If you install answer, more efficient air intake, then, you will be able to take more air in, which will not only help you to build up speed, but also improve your vehicle’s fuel economy too.

Keeping your air popes clean will also help you to build up speed as they will work more efficiently when they aren’t clogged up with dust and debris, so as always, good car maintenance is really important.

Upgrade your camshaft

Upgrading to a performance camshaft is another very effective way of making your car capable of achieving faster speeds. They work by improving the rev range of your vehicle for greater speed and precision. If you don’t know much about camshafts (they are pretty complex) then before you upgrade, it would be worth talking to an expert who can help you determine first of all if you need to upgrade and second of all which performance camshafts will be most suitable for your car because it is not always the case that the most expensive camshafts are the most effective for everyone.

Upgrade the carburetor

If you still own a vehicle with a carburetor, upgrading this component of your vehicle will also help you to improve the speed of your vehicle. The carburetor mixes gas and air to create a vapor that is burned by your vehicle’s engine. Most carburetors have been replaced with fuel injectors, but if you have a vintage car, you may still have one, and if that is the case, upgrading the barrels so that, for example, if you have two, you will now have four, will really help you to add extra speed.

Install custom performance chips

Most of the computer chips that are installed in car stock fuel injection systems by default will restrict the levels of fuel and air that can be consumed by a vehicle which means they, in effect, restrict the speed and power of the car. By switching your existing performance chip out for s custom one that does not do this, you can ensure that your car is able to use more fuel and air, which will help you to build up steam, so to speak, and drive much faster when it is safe to do so.

Upgrade your exhaust

One of the most common ways that people make their cars go faster is by upgrading the exhausts. If you have ever heard a car with a super noisy exhaust, that is probably because it has been modified to pick up speed.

By upgrading to a performance car exhaust, you can reduce the level of restriction experienced by the engine, and improve the flow to the exhaust, which gives the vehicle a boost. Dual exhausts are probably the best easy to achieve this aim, but you should always check that it is a suitable change to make for your car and that you have it installed by a qualified mechanic, just to be on the safe side.

Use nitrous oxide

If you have ever seen a Fast and the Furious movie, then you have seen nitrous oxide being used to vastly increase the speed of s vehicle so that it can shoot out in front and win a race.

Nitrous oxide is able to create more oxygen during combustion, while also having the effect of cooling the air, which means that it becomes denser and thus makes your car’s performance more powerful.

If you plan to use nitrous oxide in your car, you need to ensure that you have an expert install the injection system for you, because too much and your car may well explode!

Reduce the weight

The heavier your car is, the slower it will move in general. That is why you see so many racers who have removed the backseats from their cars or who have even ripped out their stereo systems. You may not want to go that far, but you can remove any junk you’re storing in your trunk and maybe swap out your heavy car seats for dynamic ones that are around 50 pounds lighter. Every pound counts in the quest for speed, so the more things you can strip from your car, the better. Just make sure you don’t remove anything that really needs to be there!

As you can see, there are so many things you can do to make your car faster, but before you do any of them, you need to ensure that you are putting safety first. You should never modify your car in a serious way unless you are absolutely sure that it is safe to do so, and you know what you are doing. Most of the time, it would be a good idea to hire a mechanic for your to do the work you required. Make sure the mechanic that you hire has proven certifications that relate to the work you want to have done, as in some instances you may require specialist individuals rather than untrained garage hands who don’t quite have the skills or experience to upgrade your car in the safest, most risk free manner.

It is also important that you don’t test your new speed any place where it would be dangerous to do so. Stick to the track and avoid accelerating too fast anywhere that it could be risky to do so and you will stay safe and avoid any nasty issues. You’ll no doubt need to get in touch with a good car accident attorney if you decide to take your upgraded vehicle on a test run down the local highway, especially if you’re reaching ultra high speeds that most other drivers won’t be expecting to see (or you have the unfortunate luck of meeting a cop car). It’s never safe to accelerate to excessive speeds when other drivers are nearby, as you simply cannot predict their behavior and traveling so fast leaves you with little time to react in a tricky situation. Instead, if you commit to only driving your revamped model in a dedicated speed-limit-free environment that’s made for racing, you can power down the track without a care in the world.

You don’t have to do all of the things suggested here, and even making one of these changes to your vehicles should have a positive impact on the speeds you can reach, but it goes without saying that the more of them you implement, the faster your car will be and the better your vehicle will perform overall.
