Honda recently announced that the Honda Civic Type R Concept model will make it’s worldwide debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show on March 4th.
The Civic Type R Concept model provides the styling direction for the exterior design of the highly-anticipated production version that debuts in 2015. Dubbed by the design team as a ‘racing car for the road,’ its bold and expressive styling reflects the strong performance characteristics for which Type R is renowned.
Rumor has it that the Civic Type R will be powered by a 2.0L, turbocharged engine that should deliver north of 280HP to the front wheels via a six-speed gearbox. That puts it right in the mix with the other hot hatches on the market, including the Ford Focus ST, Mazdaspeed3, and VW Golf R. (I’d include the Subaru WRX in this list, but it’s no longer available as a hatch)
Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely that Honda will bring the Civic Type R stateside. And that’s too bad, because Honda could really use a halo car for people to get excited about..
Stay tuned for more info about the Civic Type R after it’s reveal in Geneva next month!
