Bachelor pad

Setting up a new home is the beginning of a whole new life. You now have the opportunity to draw a line in the sand and start all over again, making yourself a better person, and ensuring that your new home stimulates and satisfies you. So many people like the idea of setting up a bachelor pad, but what about those guys that are on approach to 30 or even older? It’s important to rethink the idea of the modern bachelor, and therefore, the modern bachelor pad. The modern gentleman is progressive, diverse, and wants a lot more than just a few beers and a game! So here are a few things for the alternative bachelor to have in their alternative bachelor pad.

Ways to Be Sustainable

Sustainability is not just a great way to save the planet, but the modern gentleman needs to have sustainability at the forefront of their mind for the very simple fact that they can save money in the long run! You might very well be after new clothes or jewelry every so often after, but you might be able to get a little bit more if you operate with a sustainable mindset! Have a look at what your local residential solar company can do for you as far as setting up solar panels is concerned. Learning sustainable practices can also help, for example, insulating your roofing, and turning the thermostat down by a few degrees.

The Right Houseplants

House plants come in different shapes and forms, and while you may very well think that you don’t need houseplants in your life, the reality is that some ones are so easy to look after but will give you a lot of benefits. Something like a Japanese peace lily can purify the air, minimize mold spores, and will instantly decorate any drab-looking room. Houseplants are a wonderful addition to any property, and it’s so important to have a couple dotted around.

A Lot of Comfort

You might find that you are not in your bachelor pad as often as you think, but when you are there, you’ve got to make sure that you exude comfort at every turn. One of the best places to begin is with your mattress. If you plan on burning the candle at both ends a proper mattress will make a big difference to your sleep quality. As you get older, it becomes more difficult to get a good night’s sleep, and this is why you need to invest in the right mattress, but also so look at your bedroom as a place for rest and recuperation, not watching television and messing around on your phone! In addition to the right mattress, think about some blackout blinds, and keeping your room at the optimum temperature. And you might not like the idea of it, but a solid bedtime routine, no matter how late you go to sleep, will make a big difference to your sleep quality. Remember, it’s all about quality, not quantity.

The Kitchen Essentials

Setting up your own home means relying less and less on takeout! Think of these kitchen essentials as the equivalent of power tools. You need good quality chef’s knives and a cast-iron skillet. These are so important, especially if you’ve been using the same frying pan for the last six years! And even if cooking is not your thing, having a few recipes up your sleeve will make a massive difference to your budget. It doesn’t have to be anything complex, even a simple scrambled eggs recipe tastes amazing when you do it right. You want to be able to spend time relaxing at home or on weekends, and having the right recipes will make a massive difference to you actually wanting to stay in!

A Study Space/Reading Nook

The modern gentleman needs somewhere to do their work. And this is doubly true if you are working at home! If you’ve been spending the last couple of years sitting on a couch with a laptop on your person, you might want to rethink this setup. Not only are you causing yourself back problems, but if you plan on having children at some point, the heat from that laptop might be having a negative effect on your sperm! Having a study space where you can sit in a comfy chair, at a desk, and with an abundance of reading materials can get you into the right frame of mind to work properly. Even when you want to relax, a reading nook is perfect for you to get into the headspace to tackle a book from beginning to end! And even if you don’t like reading, this can be your space for contemplation, or somewhere where you can put on your headphones and just listen to music! Even if you don’t have the space, set up a corner of your home for reading or studying. Even if you don’t necessarily sit down and read a book from cover to cover, if you use this space as a place to do life admin or read important things on your phone, it helps you get into the mindset.

The Right Tools

You are in charge of your own home, and anybody who owns their own place needs a comprehensive toolkit. Thanks to the internet, you can fix almost anything by yourself, but much like the quality tools in the kitchen, you need a comprehensive box of tools with everything! You need the basics, like screwdrivers and hammers, but you also need power tools to make sure you can tackle those big tasks. Of course, there’s a lot that you shouldn’t tackle, but it’s so important to remember that you need to learn how to fix things. From hanging pictures to repairing drywall, there’s a lot that we can do without the input of a professional!

The idea of a bachelor pad sounds great in theory, however, we all require something more from time to time. In order to have a home that nurtures your needs, you will need some of these in place.
