Building Confidence Is Something Everyone Should Work On

Confidence is more than just a state of mind, it has an impact on the things you do on a daily basis, and it’s a core part of what lets us pursue our dreams. Without confidence, there are likely countless opportunities that you’re missing out on, and it’s a waste! Think about how many times you denied yourself something new, because you were afraid to fail, or were afraid to get shot down. These things might seem like small inconveniences at the time, but they add up – and you’re going without all of them. How different would your life be if you acted on everything that you wanted to?

The problem is, a lot of people don’t often see the need to build on their confidence. If you feel safe inside your bubble, then there’s no need to go further. While it’s true that being content is great and what you should strive for, you need to consider whether you have everything you want and whether you’re lacking confidence.

Confidence should be something that you’re always trying to build, even if you’re satisfied with where you are, and there are a lot of ways to go about that. You never know when you’re going to lose your confidence, because it could happen as a result of unpredictable events – so there’s no such thing as being too prepared.

Your appearance

Oftentimes, appearance is where many people feel like they’re lacking confidence. It can come from anywhere. You might lack confidence when it comes to your sense of style, your hygiene, your hair, your beard, really anything where others might judge you. It’s important that you don’t let how others perceive you prevent you from expressing yourself, and going about your day and doing what you want to.

Of course, when it comes to tackling self-image issues, it’s never as easy as just changing your mind about it. While a lot of it is a mindset, some people simply have a preference over how they would like to be, compared to how they are. Sometimes, there are changes that you could make – for example, Dr. Bared’s beard transplant service offers a way for men to get a beard that they can be happy with. While cosmetic transplants aren’t always the best way to handle insecurities, they can be an effective way to change something about yourself that you would simply prefer.

When it comes to style changes, that’s something that you need to work on. Often people will wear the same type of fashion that everyone else does, just to fit in. While there’s nothing necessarily wrong with that, it sometimes goes against your own expression, which in turn will take away from your confidence. If you get used to being yourself more often, you can build more confidence in that.

Self-care

While confidence is often affected by the things that are happening around you, it’s important that you’re looking inwards. How you see yourself, how you criticise yourself, and how you treat yourself will all have an impact on how confident you feel. When you make mistakes, are you overly harsh on yourself? Do you give yourself more criticism and negative judgement than you would one of your friends? Treating yourself fairly is something that many need to learn, as there’s no reason you should expect more from yourself than you would other people.

Maybe you grew up with expectations set on you that were just too high, and you still hold yourself to them to this day. There’s nothing wrong with adjusting your expectations. Everyone is different, and the sooner you learn to treat yourself better, the happier and more confident you can be.

Being more mindful is one thing, but then there’s also the physical care that you need to give yourself. Consider things like getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and getting a decent amount of exercise to be your priorities. All of these things will affect your mental health if you neglect them, so trying to keep yourself in good physical health will not only have you feeling more confident naturally, but you might even feel better about yourself for all of the hard work you’re putting in.

Work on your relationships

Even if you’re feeling confident now, if you find yourself surrounded by toxic relationships, it’s eventually going to affect your confidence. It could be family members who are tearing you down, or peers that express negative judgement towards you when it’s not welcome. In any case, it’s important that you pay attention to these things, and don’t accept them as the truth. If others are stopping you from doing what you want, then it’s ultimately not going to be healthy for your mental health or your confidence.

Removing these toxic relationships from your life can be difficult, as oftentimes it can take a long time to realize when they have become toxic. It could be someone you’ve known for a long time, and simply cutting them off is a big step that’s not always the best way to resolve it. You could first discuss it with them and talk about how you feel, and if that doesn’t work it’s up to you to decide what you should do with that relationship. No matter how it turns out, you shouldn’t have to be surrounded by people who tear you down, but rather by people who lift you up and support you.

If you’re not looking for ways to build your confidence, you might come to find that parts of your life are weighing on you in a negative way. Toxic friendships dragging you down, insecurities nagging at the back of your mind, difficulty with your own self-expression. Having all of these things at the back of your mind isn’t a good idea, and you should be looking to better yourself rather than keeping them around. Change your mindset, evaluate your options, and look for ways to be happier with how things are.
