Check Out The Hilarious New Trailer For ‘The Naked Gun’
The world’s most absurd crime-fighting franchise is headed back to the silver screen, and this time, Justice has a new Daddy. The first trailer for The Naked Gun just dropped, and as you can see, it looks like we’re in for a wild ride when the reboot hits theaters on August 1st.
Stepping into the role of the bumbling but well-meaning cop is none other than Liam Neeson, playing Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., son of the legendary Frank Drebin made famous by the late Leslie Nielsen. It’s a bold casting choice, but judging by the trailer, Neeson is totally leaning into the slapstick chaos, and honestly, we’re here for it.
According to the official movie synopsis, “Only one man has the particular set of skills… to lead Police Squad and save the world!” That’s a cheeky nod to Neeson’s Taken persona, but don’t worry, this movie trades intense action for banana-peel comedy.
The film is directed by Akiva Schaffer, best known for Saturday Night Live and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which already tells you this reboot isn’t afraid to go full ridiculous. Even better, it’s produced by Seth MacFarlane (Ted, Family Guy), so expect irreverent humor, fourth-wall breaking, and jokes that go way over the top.
The supporting cast is stacked with big personalities, too. Pamela Anderson joins the fun alongside Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, WWE’s Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston. If the trailer is anything to go by, every single one of them is in on the joke, and playing it completely straight, which only makes it funnier.
Watching the trailer, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud.. the chair cracking, getting handed the coffee while driving, “man’s laughter”, the Spirit Halloween sign, there were so many gems in this, it’s definitely lives up to The Naked Gun legacy!
Needless to say, if you’re a fan of the original Naked Gun films or just love watching serious actors go full ridiculous, this one’s going to be worth the price of admission.
Mark your calendars, because The Naked Gun hits theaters August 1st.
