TLC’s Extreme Cheapskates Is Extremely Disturbing!

Last night, TLC debuted their latest reality special – Extreme Cheapskates. Here’s how TLC describes the program on their website:

Extreme Cheapskates gives you an insider’s look at the most outrageous penny-pinching people around. From making their own reusable cloth toilet paper to singing for their supper, you won’t believe their extreme and inventive ways to save money.

I’ve gotten used to the kind of “Shock TV” that TLC has become known for. Virgin Diaries and Geek Love were both pretty disturbing, and Extreme Cheapskates isn’t much better.

The people on this show claim they’re just trying to be more frugal, but I really think they might have some deep-rooted psychological problems.

Instead of paying $1 for rice at the store, this guy picks up used rice that was thrown as a bride and groom exit the church. Another person rides 40 miles on his bike to recover $7.50, which he then uses to buy goat heads from the butcher. It would have been easier to work 1 hour at Walmart for minimum wage, after which he could have bought 3lbs of chicken. WTF?!

But this woman takes the cake. Too cheap to buy toilet paper (she saves $240/yr), she opts for something else, as seen in the video below:

Yes, it’s kind of gross. But still fascinating. Damn you TLC, you get us every time!

No amount of money can convince me to put myself especially my children in such a shameful situation.
