Anyone Else Burned Out On Reality TV?

Published

on

I’ve been a huge fan of reality TV. For me, it started with shows like The Real World, Survivor, and The Amazing Race. Over the years, I started watching other reality TV shows as well. And now I’ve gotten to the point where I’m burned out on reality TV, desperate for some quality television programming.

The summer television season is chalk full of cheap-to-produce crappy reality TV shows. And it’s not just the Big 4 networks to blame either.. MTV, VH1, E!, Bravo, History, Discovery, HGTV, everywhere you look there’s reality TV.

One day I looked at my DVR, and I was shocked to see that 99% of the shows I recorded were reality TV shows. The only non-reality TV show I’m watching right now is Suits on USA. And it was watching that show that reminded me about real quality TV shows.

So I did something radical. I deleted most of my season passes. I kept The Real Housewives of OC because I was already 18 episodes into a 20 episode season. And I’m keeping Snooki and JWoww because those disfunctional idiots are hysterical. Deadliest Catch is one of those guilty pleasures that I can’t shake just yet.

But a lot of other shows didn’t make the cut, and I’m fine with that.

What about you, are you burned out on reality TV yet?

I pretty much lost American Idol, mostly because I couldn’t keep up with 3 episodes a week. If it were one, I might be able to handle it!

I do love “So you think you can dance”, hot chicks! Plus, I just like it! Don’t revoke my “man card” please. Still like Amazing Race, Survivor, The Bachelorette (Guilty pleasure!! Again, please let me keep my man card!) and a few others…but will only watch others in Passing Kardashians, Cake Boss etc…

I hear you.. I gave up on AI after Season 3 for similar reasons, I can’t deal with these 2-3 day/week commitments.

(I’m only watching America’s Got Talent because of Howard Stern, but 5 hours of AGT this week was ridiculous!)
