Back in 2018, watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen launched the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor”, a special watch created in honor of the US Naval Aviation Community and available exclusively to graduates of the Navy Fighter Weapons School, more popularly known as TOPGUN.
The only problem? Civilians wanted to get their hands on this sweet timepiece. So the Swiss watchmaker just introduced a sweet civilian version called the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “SFTI”. The cost to get your Top Gun on and ride into the danger zone? A not so insignificant $9,150.
Limited to 1500 pieces, the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “SFTI” is housed in a case made of black zirconium oxide ceramic, one of the hardest substances on earth. The case back and the pushers are made of Ceratanium. Developed by IWC, this material is as light and durable as titanium, but at the same time similarly hard and scratch-resistant as ceramic.
The chronograph boasts an entirely matte black design, and the tactical look is completed by the black dial and black hands, which are coated with luminescent material. Red color accents are added by the small second’s hand at “6 o’clock” and the tail of the chronograph seconds hand, which takes the form of a Navy jet.
Peer inside the sturdy case and you’ll find the IWC-manufactured 69380 caliber ticking away. The robust chronograph movement in classic column-wheel design for precise timekeeping and the measurement of stopwatch times of up to 12 hours. Another function is a date and weekday display. The watch has a case diameter of 44 millimeters and it’s fitted with a green NATO textile strap that completes the naval uniform look.
So what do you say, who’s ready to live out their Top Gun fantasies with this sweet watch? All you need now is a Maverick Bomber Leather Jacket, a pair of Ray-Ban Aviator Classics, and a Kawasaki GPZ900R motorcycle to complete the look!
