Mazda MX-5 Miata in Zinc Green

If you’re a Miata fan, Mazda just gave you something fresh to get excited about. The Japanese automaker has officially unveiled Zinc Green, a brand-new color making its global debut on the fourth-generation MX-5 Miata, and it’s a head turner for sure!

A Color With History Behind It

Mazda has a long and storied relationship with green. Going all the way back to the iconic Mazda Go three-wheeler, which featured a green instrument panel that was later adopted as a full body color on the successor model. Then there’s the legendary Mazda 787B race car, the only Japanese car ever to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and it did so in 1991 wearing that unforgettable orange and green livery. In the 2000s, Spirited Green Metallic turned heads on the Mazda2. And across the previous three generations of the MX-5 Miata, green has made regular appearances.

Now the fourth-generation ND Miata is finally joining the party with a green hue of its own.

What Makes Zinc Green Special

This isn’t just any green slapped onto a fender. Zinc Green was developed as a lifestyle color, with the kind of depth and versatility that makes it work in different conditions and lighting. Think of it as a spiritual sibling to the popular Polymetal Gray Metallic, a color that looked different every time the light changed.

In direct sunlight, Zinc Green reveals a vibrant, rich expression with dramatic highlights and deep shadowed areas. But take it into lower-light conditions and it shifts to a more subdued, grayish tone with an almost matte quality and a sense of real solidity. It’s a chameleon color, which is exactly what makes it interesting.

Mazda also notes that Zinc Green has broad appeal across its lineup, from the MX-5 Miata to its crossover SUV models. It’s designed to make whatever it’s on stand out.

Where and When Can You Get It?

Zinc Green made its official world debut at the Karuizawa Fan Meeting, one of the largest gatherings of MX-5s on the planet, held each year in Karuizawa, Japan. It’s a fitting stage for a reveal like this, given the passionate global community that has built up around the Miata.

As for US availability, Mazda is keeping things close to the chest for now. The company says “more information and availability for the US market will be announced later this year.” So if you’re eyeing a new Miata and green is calling your name, stay tuned.

The MX-5 Miata is already one of the best sports cars you can buy for the money; endlessly fun, lightweight, and purpose-built for driving enjoyment. A color like Zinc Green only adds to that appeal. Whether you prefer the top-down wind-in-the-hair experience or just love seeing a well-spec’d roadster in your driveway, this new hue is shaping up to be a standout option.
